Yes, my grandmother got the lap-band when she was 61 roughly. She had no problems with it what so ever and has lost 170 lbs.

That makes me feel a lot better, thank you!

There are a few that got wls in their 60's, try cross posting on the other forums. I think Cappy got hers in her 60's, I think she had the vsg, White Dove got the rny, also I think in her 60's, both are pretty active on the boards.

I had band surgery at 61 1/2.  Lots of people have bariatric surgery at 60 and beyond.

It tickles me that surgery and menopause are the only times I thought in terms of a half-year age since age 9 or 10.

I had it almost a year ago just after my 61st birthday. Best thing I ever did. I think you'll find a lot of others here who have had it in their 60s and even 70s. Probably because the WLS techniques have taken time to evolve, insurance has taken time to catch up, and we also start to really see the effects of obesity on our bodies as we get older.

Have you considered the VSG? I noticed your BMI is 38. If you are on any medications, the malabsorption of the DS can be dramatic. Make sure it is the best choice for you.

Yes, that's something I plan to discuss with the surgeon.  I am thinking about the VSG but I like the success rate of the DS.  I'm worried the weight might come back and I don't want to have a revision.  I've never had surgery before and this is scary and exciting at the same time.  I take Wellbutrin and malabsorption concerns me.

I was 58 when I had RNY.  Each year added about 5 pounds and the borderline high cholesterol and pre-diabiatec finally evolved into needing to go on medication for sugar.  I am very happy with the surgery and the results.  I started eating more food because the wrinkles were too much.  I looked like I was 70 instead of 60.  Your weight does shift and I have recently started to work on going down to my original goal weight. As another poster (White Dove) mentioned, I set a goal of 1 pound per week and want to weigh 135 by April 1.  If my thighs and arms are too wiggly, why I am SURE, I know how to get back to 141.

My life changed from existing to exciting.  From feeling trapped to being alive and in control.  I feel 25 years younger.  My insurance company has saved a lot of money.  I used to have sports injuries because of my weight.  I've had foot surgery and many pulled muscles and PT because of my weight.  I will not experience the horrible effects of diabetes that my brother has and is going thru.  He has neuropathy in his legs, loss of vision, heart problems, kidney problems, etc.  It is a constant reminder for me to eat healthy, small portions.

Good luck with your surgery.  I would rather go with RNY than a DS.  I don't like meat a lot so the added benefit of a lot of fat with the DS was not a feature I desired.  All of the weight loss surgeries can be overridden by eating carbs and grazing.
