I'm afraid of heights, most bugs-except ladybugs and butterflies, I dislike clowns and mimes, but I'm not afraid of them. I'm really, really afraid of fire. ( "Fire bad!" said in my best Frankenstein grumble ) When I was a child we lived in a duplex, and the house attached to ours caught on fire. My sister and I were sleeping against the wall adjoining our houses. Scary stuff. We were woken up by someone banging on our front door.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

I'm with you. I was in a fire when I was 13 and I'm petrified of fire now.   Like won't even burn a candle scared.

Im also afraid of birds - and I get creeped out being home alone - I always feel like someone is looking in the window, even if I'm on the second floor.

I am not afraid of butterflies, but I find then absolutely disgusting.  Their powdery wings make me sick.

For several years when my kids were little, we would get those butterfly habitats, with larvae.  You watch the larvae eat and form into chrysalises, then hatch into butterflies.  I still like butterflies, but seeing them up close so much made me realize how creepy crawly they are.  They are bugs!  Like grasshoppers with pretty wings.

My teenage daughter is the same, moths or butterflies make her lose it completely.

We went cabin camping down in Montana a couple of years ago, middle of the night she woke me up because she thought there was a moth in the cabin. On go the lights (big mistake...) and we were confronted with what I can only describe as a swarm of about 50 HUGE moths. Thankfully they don't bother me much and I tried to deal with them while she was losing her mind.

The moths won in the end, the owners had to call exterminators in to spray, and we had to move to a hotel for the rest of the trip.

Weird- I share your bug fear, but also am not afraid of ladybugs and butterflies. Hmmm. Must be due to being cute storybook characters in children books and such.
