I've never done it,  but have you ever considered Geocaching? Not sure if you're in an area that would be active,  but I'd like to check it out someday.

Our town has a recreation department that you can join. They organize all kinds of family activities, including camping trips etc. It's cheap ($30 per month for the family) and they have an Olympic size pool, exercise classes, low-cost karate classes, and art classes, plus yoga and spin classes)

Have you ever looked at your local YMCA? Some of them are dumps and some are really amazing. My son and DIL had an amazing one by their house. Family oriented, lots of activities...

Have hou considered taking a martial arts class?

My sisters kids, who were the poster children for non athletic geeky nerds...did martial arts...various ones over the years. Her second son had CP and it really helped him, and her oldest son really became athletic- he teaches the Brazilian Martial Art of Capiero now. I would never have seen that coming.

Yes, the YMCA is where I already work out because my son is on the swim team.  Not only is it astronomically expensive here (I have to pay it because it's a requirement of swim team membership), I genuinely do no enjoy it very much.  I live within walking distance of the brand new "state of the art" FAMILY Y.  It's convenient except that I have to spend time with all these self-entitled brats, in order to use the facilities.

I actually prefer the YMCA in downtown.  I also use the Y's going across country and when I travel if they have reciprocal privileges.

In general, I am not a huge YMCA fan.

David John took karate when he was younger.  I'd consider that, but it's very expensive for three of us.

I agree about the Y. That is why we do not join.

What ****** me off is that it's priced out of affordability for any family outside the uppity suburbs -- and yes, I get the irony that I live in the suburbs -- and the children that truly need a place to go and play cannot possibly afford to go.

My kids and I take Tae Kwon Do together. They decided they wanted to give it a go after seeing an exhibition, so I started taking them four times a week.

After surgery, I was looking for something to do that didn't involve a gym, when I realized I'm already at a dojang 6 hours a week! Why not just join the class?

We have a great time. There are about ten families who participate in family class. My daughter and I are sparring partners, and she's going to her first tournament next weekend.

I am much fitter (see how long you can bounce in fight-ready position--it's real cardio...especially when a large Korean man in pajamas is yelling at you that if you stop you have to do burpees for the rest of class), stronger, and more flexible than I ever thought possible. I can do the splits and put my face on the floor now...better than many folks in my class who were never fat.

Also, I'm continuously learning. I can throw a punch, block a hit, say several Korean words and phrases, and I've met lots of new friends, people I can hang with.

Do you have any indoor bike parks near you?  My husband and son go all the time and have a blast.

Alternatively a trampoline park. We have skyzone here.  Don't know if you have them where you are
