I loved Hidden Figures. I have Jackie but haven'****ched it yet.

I've long wanted to see an opera. Even one of the live broadcasts from the Met at the movie theater. I just haven't done it yet.

Later this year will be The Magic Flute. It may be my favorite.

Next year it's big blockbusters-Madame Butterfly, The Barber of Seville, Cosi Fan Tutte(another big fave), and Aida.

Let me know when you are coming. The seats are comfy. My wife usually takes a little nap during the opera.

I was blown away by Jackie. It really is phenomenal. I saw it in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse. They show  a little film before that relates to the movie. They showed her White House tour, old political ads, and early 60's stuff.

I watched it with my sister and SIL. My SIL saw the President drive by their house earlier that morning in Fort Worth.

I used to adore watching all the awards shows, especially the Oscars.  But I'm already sick to death of celebrities using them for their personal political soap boxes, so I'm done with them for good.  The days of gracious acceptance speeches for their WORK are gone...so am I.  Now I just look at the red carpet photos the next day.

I'm a progressive, so I often agree with what they say, but I find it amusing that politicians and celebrities think any of us care what celebrities think!

I actually also dislike speeches that mention God a gazillion times (Chance the Rapper on the Grammys).

It's simple.  Thank everyone who worked on the film, your husband/wife/kids and your parents - walk off - you haven't cured cancer, you were in a movie!!!!!

Exactly!  For me it isn't about agreeing or disagreeing with them, I just don't want to hear that junk at awards shows.  Talk about the movie, your career, your family, whatever...just be pleasant and keep the politics out!  Unfortunately, they are "preaching to the choir" with their political talk and the majority of the in-theater audience eats it up so they have no reason to stop.

I miss the old days when stars were gracious and elegant...I know, dating myself big time!! lol

About 50 friends and I have a private FB group, the sole purpose of which is to snark the fashions worn by celebs at Red Carpet award events.  We find a lot to snark about.

Naturally, Oscar Night is the big event of the year.  But the music award Red Carpets are by far the most fun, since they offer many more primo snarking targets.

;)

BTW, I'm pulling for "Hidden Figures."  For those who haven't seen movies in the theatre in a long time, this is one great movie.  Literally, everyone I know who's seen the movie says at the end of the showing they attended, people stood up at the end and applauded.

Now THAT's a movie worth seeing!

I love you, i do. But dang, I have never ever been able to get into award shows. I would rather see something real- like an award show for real life heroes or something :)

I am just not one to cry at a movie. There was one horrible exception. My first year teaching i showed the movie Old Yeller. That move really needs to have a warning label on it. 30 5th graders and the teacher just bawling.

Happyteacher,

My response was not to you.  The post I responded to was deleted.

Good thing I included her modified post and worded it in that way, otherwise it would look erroneously as I responded to your post.

"Old Yeller" was a very good movie,  the ending was a tear jerker. I am glad they did not later modify that particular scene by CGI'ing in a walkie-talkie for his rifle (as they did in the movie "E.T." for the handguns).   :)

I might be getting older, but definitively do not have Alzheimer's disease.

I noticed in a different post topic that someone deleted their post, but the entry remained there with a line that they deleted it.

I logged out and looked again at this topic and found I could now read NYC's post. I guess this precious flower blocked me from reading her posts.  The irony is at BariatricPal, she (under a different, similar starting name) would be quick to criticize others.
