Transfer addiction - shopping

Cute shoes! I have the same addiction. I can sort of afford it, but I am trying to retire this year so I need to nip it on the bud. I have had to remind myself not to buy any more work clothes (I only go to the office twice a week), but I have to curb the playclothing urges.  Do I really need another sweater/jeans/shorts? No, but my urge to get them is very powerful! For a while I told myself that the money I was saving from not going to eat was just being refocused, but now we go out just as much. I may spend less at a restaurant but not enough to compensate for the clothing urges. Oh yeah, and if I'm going to retire, I need to cut back on the restaurant visits too!

Whenever I go to consinment stores and look around I think so this is where women hide their sins, shopping addiction that is.  Funny after I look around for a bit I feel like I've bern through a bunch of very nice, but empty liquor bottles.

It is so difficult to get that balance. For me, the first couple of years was necessity and thrill of the shop combined, but now I am settling down into practical and useful and wear my clothes until they are way past their gently used stage.

So maybe you may be able to get some balance back but like earlier posters have said, if you are harming your financial health and or need to deceive - alternative fact your spouse, those are all hallmarks of a problem.

I spent so much money at clothing stores it was disgusting.  Granted, I didn't go over board monthly, but I definitely had an addiction.   I might spend $200 one month, but I wouldn't purchase anything for another 3 or 4 months.  I tried to keep it down, my bank account couldn't handle it otherwise.   At one point my husband told me no more shoes and purses and that was the wrong thing to do. lol

I also shop alot but I pretty much only buy clothes for $1 so DH doesn't fuss that much. Plus I tell him, now i can wear all these things I never could before. I spend less than $50 a month on clothes, shoes, etc. Its more like $40 or less.

I'm just now trying to learn my style versus 'what fits'. so that is taking time.

I have more pairs of boots and booties than I care to say!!  But that was in the beginning.  I finally curbed my spending after I owned it ALL.  But, thanks Deanna, now I have yet another shoe site to check out.  Hubby is going to kill me!!

I'm completely guilty.  When another package arrived from Amazon yesterday and my husband asked what it was, I told him he wouldn't like it since they were shoes.  Wait until another pair of shoes up today!

In all reality, I've been spending a good amount of money shopping for clothing and shoes but I'm now working out of an office again and nothing fit.  As long as I stay on budget and donate old items when I get new ones he's OK.

Of course did I really need another coat living in Austin, TX when I have 10 others just because it was a super cute Elie Tahari coat I got for $40?  Probably not but I'm not overeating or drinking alcohol any longer.  (Alcohol was definitely my first transfer addiction after WLS but I'm now 11 months sober).

write off all those clothes donations on your taxes!
