Good info: how to prevent "stomach stretching"

I've read a few people talk about stretching the stomach a while after surgery. Someone shared this video in another group I'm part of and thought it'd be good info to understand how things work after surgery. I'll be honest, I didn'****ch the video...but from 10 years of observation.....most people tend to be able to eat more after they heal..and much more after they get to 2 or 3 years out. ALMOST everyone can graze all day long on slider foods....like potato chips....sugary foods...etc.

At 11 years post op from the DS, I can eat as much in 1 sitting as I did prep.

Have you been able to maintain your weight loss in spite of your stretched stomach?

Yes. This was the reason I had the DS. The reality is that the "honeymoon Period" will end ...for most people somewhere between year 2-3.

I knew that I would be able to eat more and wanted to ENSURE i could maintain my weight loss. I'm not a good dieter....in fact that is why I got so fat.

But 11 years out. I've maintained a 300 lbs weight loss. Eating pretty much anything I want.

The video was interesting but this physician has meat next to processed foods as the most likely to cause weight gain, which contradicts what most vets here have experienced. He touts eating lots and lots of vegetables, which for most of us doesn't provide the satiety that dense protein does.

not to mention not getting the protein that our muscles require. Heart n lungs, kidneys are muscles. Not enough protein causes our body to cannibalizes our muscles for protein.

Actually I have his book and it isn't meat per se that he blames, it is the amount of hormones, additives etc that he blames for weight gain.  He recommends that folks who do eat meat wherever possible by locally sourced organic grass fed meats...all makes sense to me.  We started that years ago to help with my husband's crohns..and it has made a difference.

After I found out I had the BRCA mutation that makes me a cancer magnet, I started a lifestyle change to reduce risks of Breast and ovarian cancers. In addition to the prophylactic mastectomy etc, I changed up my eating to focus on "clean" hormone free meats. I lived on tiny farm where I just had a couple of horses, so I added chickens and goats for fresh, organic, hormone free eggs, meat and dairy. I also hunt deer each fall on my parents farm which has no commercial farming in the area (so limited exposure to pesticides etc). Between the venison, chicken, eggs, and dairy I'm able to eat really healthy proteins. Unfortunately I separated from my husband and had to let the goats "dry up" since he wasn't interested in milking them. I really miss my fresh goatmilk yogurt :(
