traveling this week for the first time since surgery
And I have to say, I am worried about being away from home and eating out for most of our meals for the next ten days. I am not quite four months post op and while I feel like I am making progress, I also have hit a small stall. I am going to be away from my scale, my exercise routine and my ability to cook my own food and it has me worried.
Any advice on how to travel so soon after post op?
I took a week long vacation at 4 months out. I was travelling by myself which I am sure made it much easier. Since it was vacation, I had lots of walking for sightseeing every day (including a day hiking in Great Smoky Nat'l Park). Most hotels also have a fitness center.
I packed some individual serving packets of protein powder and some tuna pouches and protein bars. The tuna pouches and protein bars made for convenient lunches. Some days I ate breakfast at the hotel if they had complimentary breakfast. I would simply take the equivalent of one scrambled egg and maybe a slice of bacon off the bar for breakfast. Other days I would just make up a protein shake for breakfast. I made sure I had a water bottle with me every where I went. Dinners I ate out and just tried to make reasonable choices - a grilled chicken sandwich without the bread, a broiled shrimp appetizer etc. Most restaurants will make easy accomodations for people on low carb - hold the bread on sandwiches, leave off the rice or potato that comes with an entree etc.

Honestly dont worry so much about it. You know whats good food and whats bad. Just make smart choices and honestly many find (while in the honeymoon stage) they loose weight on trips.
Truthfully just try to enjoy yourself and just choose the right foods.

I have traveled a lot since surgery and it has been fine. You will get the hang of it and any adjustments needed. I think it is actually good to get out of safe spaces where we can control everything. I plan to live a full life and that includes traveling for me. One thing though all my trips have had in common is that I come home to have gained on the scale the first few days. Comes off soon so I don't stress over it. I don't get as much water in when traveling and I am sure that is it.
I started traveling about twice a month one month post op. It has not been an issue. I got a little travel scale about the size of my iPad. I love it. When I get to my destination I usually do a small grocery shop to stock up on staples like healthy breakfast items and snacks...I always stay in a hotel with a mini fridge, I'll buy protein shakes if traveling to the US . Otherwise I bring what I think I need with me. I eat out lunch and dinner and just make healthy choices. If I know the restaurant I will google the name so I can plan accordingly.
Exercise is easy on vacation and I had no issues getting in my 10,000 steps, with the work trips they required a trip to the hotel gym every day and treadmilling it.

We have gone to Disneyland, San Francisco and Hawaii since my surgery on 10/25. I find I get more exercise when I am away from home and always manage to drink at least 90oz of clear liquids.
In restaurants I take my allotted 3 oz off my husband's plate. I go shopping right away (tuna, cottage cheese, yogurt and those packets of meat/cheese/nuts) and try to take my pre planed food with me when ever I can. It takes a bit of planning but hadn't been a problem so far.
We share the same surgery date and we are heading to Kauai! We have planned a ton of excursions and our timeshare (Kauai Beach Resort) doesn't have a full kitchen but will have some things available. thanks for the feedback!
I travel and eat often often and travelled very soon after my surgery. The first time was at 4 weeks out. I ordered a scallops skewer and it worked perfectly. I packed beef jerky packets to help when needed. Some protein bars if you are worried about what will be available. I would typically order a side of shrimp (on someone else's entree) or an appetizer size of something. Just ask the server for what you want. Do NOT look at the menu. They will help you out. If you just ask the server how you can get a small portion of whatever protein you prefer and they will typically help you figure it out. Sometimes the change in routine and extra activity when traveling is just what you need ton break the stall. Good luck.

I travel every 2-3 weeks.
I was in Aruba at 5 weeks post op. I was in Boston 2 weeks later. I bring a large, empty water bottle which I fill at airports. Random things I keep in my carry-on: Jerky, Quest bars - have since moved to Combat Crunch bars, moon cheese (airport Starbucks carry these), greek yogurt you can get at airports, nuts (sparingly), crystal light packets. In the early months, I made sure to get to a supermarket for sugar free pops and gallons of water on day of arrival. If your hotel room doesn't have a freezer, the hotel front desk staff will keep your pops frozen for you if you're nice :-) Keep away from "continental breakfasts" and look for eggs, (even if its just eating the inside of a Dunkees or Starbucks breakfast sandwich). In my losing phase, I had the best losses after a week of being on the road. I think having an awareness is key. Good luck!
