Still eating too fast
Well, MY program said the same thing yours does. I was supposed to be up to a cup by the end of the 9 weeks. Umm...no freakin' way! So experience has told me, and as so many vets point out, the nutritionists who give you the guidelines are going by science, not reality. How many fat nutritionists have you seen? So, the advice you are getting here is from people who are or have gone through it. I can only tell you my own experience, and although I went through the phases like they told me to as far as adding new foods each phase, I found that the "amounts" guidelines were...well, basically...a bunch of hooey.
It all comes down to doing what you have to do to get your fluids and protein in. If it means eating more small meals, then that's what you do. You can't continue to make yourself sick or hurt just to make your bari program people happy. As long as you get your requirements in at the end of the day, that's all that counts.
Split your meals up. Eat half...then an hour or so later see if you can eat the other half. That's what I do. And best of luck!
Just to note, I'm eating about 1/2 cup at a time and I'm not sick/hurting. It takes me a long time, but that's not due to pain. That's just the pace I feel comfortable with. I also continue to make progress with the time, now taking 45-60 minutes per meal instead of 60-90 when I first started.

Maybe you aren't chewing it enough?
I never took 30 minutes to eat... but I also couldn't even eat 1-2 ounces at 7 weeks out. Just ahve a couple of bites and see how you feel after that, maybe?
Those first few months are tough, but it does get better!

Dr Kellog ... who ran a high end fat spa in upstate NY at the turn of the century and invented what we refer to as " cornflakes " there used to make his patients take a mouthful of food and chew literally thirty times before being allowed to swallow.
I too used to be a food inhaler- and it's very frustrating because you get half the nutrition and feel deprived unless you eat a second helping.
After my surgery I made a conscious effort to chew chew chew and to drink before not with or after meals .
I too ended up having to eat six small meals a day which I chose to risk rather than stretch my pouch .
The risk with splitting up your food is obviously " grazing " - you can get in a lot more calories:( . The good side is you don't have blood sugar swings or disturbing hunger.
(((()))) welcome to the losers bench !!! I would try different things until you find what feels right . Hugs

When I was early on in my post-op period, I would either play solitaire or read a book while eating. That really helped space things out.

It's time to be a rebel! Seriously, these folks are decent at their jobs, but they parrot the same things to everyone who comes through the door. My nutritionist told me I should be shooting for 50-60 grams of protein a day so as not to lose muscle mass. I spent a good two minutes researching that on Google to find out I needed over TWICE that for my body size and anticipated ending weight. But that is what she tells everyone.
When I asked her about it and presented my findings (I did put more time in after that two minutes) she agreed. But I had to jolt her a little to get her out of her rut. What works for one person doesn't always work for another. So if distractions slow you down to a proper pace, go for it. Live life on the edge! That's what I do.
