Am I creepy or what?!
I do this too. Buy something I want and give it to my kid or husband. My poor husband has to order what I want for dessert when we go out...and I'm not going to eat it.

Oh. Me too. I'm a vegan but I buy all sorts of non vegan goodies for my mom that I know I won't eat (but would if they were vegan). It kind of satisfies my sweet urge. Also I met with my NUT yesterday and talked him into letting my try some decaf coffee. Now that I have the go ahead I've lost the urge. Just couldn't stand that it was off limits.
Yikes! I've never stared and never drooled and never been aware that people do. Now that I know those are things, I hope I'm not susceptible to starting.
The worst I've ever done is look at the large display stand of chocolates positioned just before the checkout area at Trader Joe's and imagine picking up a pack to take a whiff. What stops me is knowing that all the wrapping prevents a whiff from getting through. I used to buy the three-pack of small bars of dark chocolate.
OK, since y'all asked -- yes, these behaviors are strange! Not sure "creepy" is a polite way to refer to them, but maybe that, too. ;)
Especially the buying food you can't eat anymore and pushing it on people you love, i.e., getting a "contact high" from watching others eat the food you felt compelled (yeah, compelled!) to buy but that you won't or can't eat yourself.
There are some lessons to be drawn from these behaviors. Not just ha-ha lessons, but WTF?! lessons. But y'all know that already.
What a long, strange journey we're on, eh?
P.S. No, I have never done anything "weird" regarding food or eating. And if you believe that ....
