What are you going to have on Valentines Day?

We are having a rare treat. Some friends of ours brought us 2 fresh dungeness crabs so now we are deciding what to  make with them. Do we simply cook, crack and eat? Maybe make something special with the meat? My sweetie is rolling the ideas around. I'm leaning towards fresh strawberries with sugar free chocolate syrup for dessert.

How about all of you out there? Any special plans? Are you going somewhere special?

DH and I are in Florida (just bought a townhome for winter months a week ago). It was too late to get reservations anywhere nice when I started calling, so we decided to celebrate Valentines Day on February 15 (and go to a romantic restaurant).

I've got a Planned Parenthood Generation Action meeting that morning and that's my only special plan.  And mental therapy.  Yay!  But mainly I'll be studying for my first Anatomy lecture exam of the term, which is the day after.

I may draw some ire and fire, but Valentine's Day is just another day here.  And that is by Mrs. LittleBillJr's decree. She is not fussy or high maintenance, and would rather have a quiet night at home with conversation than a fancy meal out surrounded by a bunch of strangers.  I suppose I could make something fancy, but we are pretty simple in our tastes.  We might hit the local diner, since I will have a student all day.  Those days are always intense, and leave me exhausted.  But even if we do that, it will be very low key - no cards, flowers, or gifts.  That's how she prefers it.

I'm right there with Mrs. LittleBillJr!!  I'm happy to just stay home and relax with the DH.  No card, flowers, or gift either.

We don't celebrate it either.  In fact my son has tutoring that night so we won't even be together.  I don't think we even exchanged cards last year.  I will wear my new red dress to work and my 8 year old is excited to have his valentine's party at school.  My birthday is in February and my son's is beginning of March so we already have lots to celebrate at this time of year.

It is like that here. Mrs. LittleBillJr has her birthday in mid December.  Then there is Christmas.  Then in mid January, it is our anniversary.  We're wore out!

We don't go crazy by any means. She will get flowers from Safeway (I always joke about them coming from a graveyard), a hand made card and we try to make an upscale dinner. I never know when I will be done with work so sometimes we had to reheat heart shaped pizza but we always have dinner together on Valentines Day.

My Husband I always celebrated on February 13th. It was the anniversary of our first date in 1984. He passed away in December, so this is the first one without him in over 30 years. I'm a little sad but over the shock at least. Take time to celebrate stuff, the memories are worth it.
