When you got your wls, how would you discribe the pain? Were you afraid? How did you cope?

Just shy of 4 weeks post op here. Everyone's experience is different but for me the pain was a total non-issue. I was on IV meds the first day (not really by choice, as I mostly slept). I took only Tylenol from Day 2 to 6 or 7 and then nothing after that.

There was pain? I got diluadid the first 2 days in the hospital, and truely it more just helped me sleep, as I really didnt have much pain. My surgery was open not laproscopic, too.

Afraid....no. I was more afraid of what was going to happen to me if I stayed obese.

No coping here, as changes are inevitable and just need to be handled as they happen. Cant predict what can happen so why worry about it.

I had an open surgery- so my experience was based on that. I felt that WLS was PAINFUL. I had plastics since then and that wasn't so bad, but WLS was hard for me. Then again, I was 500 lbs and out of shape. Plus the pain management doctor in the hospital would not give me a liquid pain med. She would only give me pills- which were REALLY hard for me to take the first couple of weeks post op.

I had the DS. At the time, the surgeon I had (he would do it Lap now) would only do the full DS as an open surgery. I knew I needed the DS to get to my goal weight. He said that I could have the RNY lap at that time. He did however think I'd have better results with the DS-and I did. It was a small price to pay to get to goal and stay there for 11 years.

No pain meds once I was up and walking the day of surgery and nothing after.  No pain at all

The pain from surgery was pretty minimal. Within about ten days from surgery I felt about as well as I did going in, except I was tired and needed a nap now and then.

The pain from carrying around my big huge body was much worse than the surgery. I'm a million times better now.

so true, carrying around this body is awful. Went to a family even yesterday that involved walking around a lot and i was so exausted. At 470lbs, its hard to even imagine a life not being exausted. You must feel so great now, i hope i too can get there some day.

Pain was bearable. On IV mends while in the hospital, used T3 at discharge the first few days. Was off pain medicine within 4 day. I picked up an upper respiratory infection by the 3rd week out. Coughing/sneezing from that is immensely aggravated whatever pain I had up
