Six week check-up and Iron question

I'm doing great! Down 30# and my BS and BP are great. I read my visit notes on the app they provide and it stays I should be taking 325 (65 Fe)mg once per day. Right now I'm taking Celebrate 18mg plus Vit C in the pill once a day.  Am I screwing myself up now? I'm 60 next month and childbearing issues have sailed away.  When I was at visit there I wasn't told about this dose. My labs pre-op were good. I had RNY 12/22/16.

I'm taking Miralax every other day and Benefiber powder started to help things along. TMI!

Also, was given the OK to swallow pills!

I just don't want to have any issues with anemia. Next visit with my surgeon end of March with a boatload of blood work to be done.

The 65mg of ferrous sulfate they suggest is very constipating. All of the ferrous salts are. Your best bets are heme iron, carbonyl iron, or the patch. Any pills need to be separated from calcium, coffee, tea, and several other things by 2 hours, and taken with extra vitamin c. With the patch, you don't have to worry about those things.

One tong I don't need is constipation! I'll finish off the Celebrate iron and look for what you suggested. Thanks.

You may not need iron supplements at 60.  Just keep a good eye on your labs.  My iron was fine for five years and then I had to add iron supplements to stay in a good range.  I stopped eating a lot of red meat, due to kidney concerns and my iron dropped.

I guess age has some benefits! Just received my Ohio golden buckeye card in the mail. Blood tests end of March will give me some indication. Thanks.
