Am I special, or does this happen to everyone? Forum navigation
There is a setting to make it so posts show up in chronological order instead of popping the one with the newest activity to the top - which I think is part of the problem? For this you go to settings, message board, and then "default view preference."
You can also view "recent posts" which will just show all the comments in chronological order. Which can be useful.
Does that help at all? There's always a learning curve when getting used to new forum structure!

I think the issue is at the individual thread level rather than the subforum level. It's the difference between "nested" comments and "flat" comments. Nested is the way OH is set up. When you reply to a specific post, it indents and the reply stays with the post being replied to. So previous pages of a thread can constantly change as people reply to individual posts. Flat comments mean all new comments regardless of who you are replying to go to the end of the thread. Previous pages stay static, so once you've read those posts, you don't need to go back, you just read from the last place you left off.
Once you have a preference in styles, it can be hard to adapt to the other! And it seems that in OH, once a thread is longer than one page, it can't take you directly to the comment in question when clicking from the Recent Posts page or from an email, which is kind of important with nested comments. It takes you to the first post where you then need to scroll through the pages to find the comment in question.
The more time I'm here, the easier it gets, but as with any site, there are things that could be easier. I just remember it's free to me, it's full of great information and redesigns are expensive!
I have been on this site for over 8 years... I got used to it. Once in a while OH updates the site to make it more user friendly...We all hate the upgrades....Then we get used to them and learn how to navigate the obstacle course.
Welcome to OH.
By the time you find your way around - it would be time for new version....

Awww LittleBill - you are special! (and maybe a geezer - I don't know about that). On to your question....yes, I think the set-up can be improved and it is a little frustrating at times.
Don't worry about being "rude" - we know you're not.

Thank you everyone, for the responses! Cecily nailed it. It is the way the responses to a post are categorized that drives me nuts. Probably the worst part is when I click on the "see the activity" link and it takes me to a page that says "there are no replies".
I guess in the end, it is better to have a problem like this than to have no replies to a post at all.
When you get the 'there are no replies' screen if you click on the post name it will take you back into the post but unfortunately not to where someone replied... that is my bigest grip, what is the point of having 'notifications' if you can't find them...

Thank you. I did already know that, although it took me a couple of times to figure it out when it first happened. I just think it is somewhat ironic that a link purporting to take me to see recent replies lands me on a page that says there are no replies.
