Am I special, or does this happen to everyone? Forum navigation

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I looked over the multitude of possibilities, but may have missed a support or technical forum.
I am really enjoying getting to know some of the people here. I like participating, and I enjoy writing. I do not enjoy the way this forum is set up. I've been on various message boards since 1994, and I can state categorically that this is the most cumbersome setup I have seen. But maybe it is me. Is there something I need to configure differently, or perhaps try a different browser?
I will start a thread. People will respond. As long as it stays one page or less, it isn't too much trouble. But once it gets longer, there is no telling where responses are going to end up. Clicking on the promise to take me to see the "activity" doesn't seem to work very well either. It has landed me in the middle of the thread, when the response is at the end, or even further to the front! Pages seem to be rearranged as responses come in, so I can't even remember where a particular post was on a given page, because it might end up somewhere else! I spend a lot of time hunting around, and I absolutely HATE missing a post and not responding if it warrants, because I don't want people thinking I am rude.
Does everyone experience this? Am I having some sort of technical melt down? Am I just a geezer who isn't understanding something?
No, you are not alone!! When I try to see the most recent posts, I have to scroll through the whole thread and check the dates!! Sometimes I then spot posts that I have missed. If I just hit the "Recent Posts" tab, I can see the recent posts but not necessarily the post they are replying to!
I thought it was just me!

Nope, not just you. I wish this site had the "go to last unread response" etc -- but it doesn't.

I don't have an issue with load time, although I highly recommend an ad blocker for the site. OH is crazy spammy with all the crappy animated ads. I wish there was a paid subscription option that would make the site ad-free for those who want it.
