Hey! I don't have any advice really. But I do have Celiacs. I want to say just because you haven't eaten wheat doesn't mean you're not interacting with wheat. If you're food is coming from a place that also has wheat products your food may be contaminated. And if you do have Celiacs literally any amount will be enough to give you issues. And furthermore gluten products are in more than food. It's in most make ups, many shampoos and conditioners, face wash, soap, etc. Just because your not eating it doesn't mean it won't screw around with your insides.

Also, gluten is in foods you wouldn't associate with it. Chocolate, drinks, etc.

Just saying this because it may still be worth getting a work up on it.

I don't know anything about the process but I'm also going to need to do something about mine, so your experience will be very helpful if you can share.  :)

Developing hemorrhoids post WLS is VERY common. Look up at the top for the search bar and put Hemorrhoid and anal fissures....yeah it can get WORSE!!!!

GO SEE A PROCTOLOGIST. They specialize in butt holes......they really do!

A former member posted this several years ago:

Get thee to a colorectal doc ASAP and get diagnosed first, then get prescriptions for
Nifedipine capsules (NOT time release) 10 mg I think, taken twice a day
Nitroglycerine paste to put up your butt twice per day (or after each poop)
Lidocaine gel (5%) to put up your butt twice per day (or before AND after each poop) (You can also buy this at -- um -- sex shops and over the internet as AnalEaze -- yes, it's for what you think it's for, but it also works for this)
And take sitz baths, or regular baths, or go in a hot tub, or just stand in the shower and get warm water on the butt (I used the handheld showerhead on the pulsating setting).

Be careful of the following:
Both the nifedipine and nitroglycerine lower bp -- you may have to space them apart in time. The nitro can give you a headache in particular.
Lidocaine is absorbed into the bloodstream through mucous membranes -- you should use enough to give you relief from pain but not so much to affect your heart.
If you can cure the fissures this way (and mine were cured in 10 days), you should be able to avoid surgery. YOU WANT TO AVOID SURGERY, TRUST ME!!

The nifedipine and nitroglycerine relax the muscles of the anal sphincter, which are spasming from the fissure -- this should allow the fissure to heal itself. The surgery is called a sphincterotomy -- the purpose is to slice the sphincter muscle to make it relax and stop the spasming, and can cause long term anal control issues if it doesn't heal properly -- this risk is not present in using medicine to do the same thing. HOWEVER, if you don't treat the fissure when it is relatively new, this medical treatment is less likely to work, and you could need surgery later.

Interesting.  Thanks for the info.

I have IBS-C so I'd already developed hemorrhoids before WLS, but they've gotten worse and prolapsed with the post-op constipation.  I have managed to avoid any significant fissures.  I need to find a specialist and get a plan together for treatment, but I want to make sure I've got the constipation under control before, or I'd have to keep having it done.

I have IBS-C . Most likely caused by SIBO. WLS can make it worse.  Fiber can make it worse.

I use miralax and IF (intermittent fasting -14-16 hours in every 24 hours only drinking non calories liquids) to help with that.  I noticed that when I forget to take my vit K +K2 for a few weeks my hemorrhoids got much worse.  I am trying to use prep-H suppositories one or 2 per day to see if that helps . So far so good. Making sure I don't strain (miralax,) and have good BM  every morning is important. Warm water small enema to make sure the rectum is clean (no leftover matter in there ) really helps when the that are gets more irritated.  A few days of that really works.

I'm 5 weeks post surgery and had alternating constipation/diarrhea until week 4 when I got permission to add in a fiber supplement. Things have been fine now, but during those first four weeks I developed hemorrhoids from heck.

I saw a gastroenterologist earlier this week. I explained to him that I had just had the surgery, so the poop issues were normal, but I just needed to do something about the hemorrhoids. He wanted to do a full colonoscopy, a celiac panel, and a bunch of tests. I pointed out that I hadn't eaten wheat in weeks, so isn't the celiac panel a waste of time (oh, yeah). Then I asked if it was okay to drink the colonoscopy liquid so soon after WLS and he thought about it and changed it to a partial (I only have to do enemas).

Is this normal procedure when you're seen for hemorrhoids? I have an appointment next week with another gastroenterologist (it was so far out when I made it that I kept calling around looking for a  sooner appointment, but haven't cancelled it yet).

Also, the partial colonoscopy and infrared coagulation for the hemorrhoids isn't scheduled until 2/9.

On the plus side, I told my best friend that I was getting my butthole lasered.

I totally would not have all those scopes for hemmorroids.

I went to see coco-rectal surgeon and he gave me a tOical treatment plan tatcsolved the problem and a protocol for avoiding them in the future.

Been there, pooped that! Roids suck! I started adding chili to my diet 3 to 4 days a week and all of my issues are now flushed away.
