What FitBit would you get for a 10 year old boy?

Hi fellow weight loss strugglers,

My boyfriend's son is a little chunky and eats eats eats until the plate is empty.  He often eats past the point of being full, and says, "but it tastes so good!".  I see a lot of me in him, which makes me sad, since the last thing I would wish on a child is a lifelong struggle with obesity.  We make sure to incorporate physical activities into our life when he's with us, and we make sure to serve balanced meals.  He loves taking walks with me and seeing the steps on my FitBit, and said he wants a FitBit too.  I wonder if anyone has any opinions or experience with this?  I am thinking a wris****ch type, and one that shows steps, so I am leaning towards the Alta.

Also, is there any benefit to offering rewards for fitness?  I don't want to give him a complex about his weight (his sisters eat like birds and are stick thin) so I don't want to say "We will give you $5 if you get 5,000 steps every day of the week" but like all kids, he loves money and has no access to it so I think it could work :)

Ideas welcome!

I just got the wristband Fitbit Flex and I love it!!  I love looking at my steps throughout the day on my Ipod and he probably would too!!  Nothing wrong with money as an incentive, after all isn't that what we adults do at work?  My mom always rewarded us with food which wasn't a problem since none of us got overweight until we moved away from home.  Problem is that we continued rewarding ourselves with food!

Google that. Target and bestbuy have a bunch of different ones that aren't as expensive as FitBIt. I got this one for my 7 year old daughter. It has a chore reminder and goals and fun stuff to earn. They have boy ones too.

Did you see they now have a package of 3 different colors so you can change them up?  Love it!

Yes, they have great colors.  I bought mine around Christmas on their site and got $20 bucks off.  Wanted for swimming too. I like. Being able to participate in challenges great motivator. Easy to recharge.

How about starting with a plain old pedometer? You can find them for five bucks or less at Wal-Mart, and it might be a good "trial run" before giving a $100+ gadget to an elementary schooler.

I thought of that, but he loves seeing my FitBit and I figured we could have a small friendly competition with each other :)  Also, I should mention that he desperately wants an iPhone, and we are thinking we can tell him, take care of this until the end of the school year and if you haven't lost it or broken it, you will show that you are responsible enough for a phone.

Get ready - I know your sweet Nolan is only 1 but these days, kids apparently "have to" go to middle school (6th grade!) with a Smartphone.  It's insane.

A pedometer gives false readings. Every time that you "move" it records a step. So, if he is sitting in his desk at school and moves to get a book or something else from his surroundings it will record a step.
