Having an issue kicking the salt habit?
Kathy S, I hear you about "a little food with their salt." My ex-fiance was like that...I could not fathom the amount of salt he put on a meal. Once when we finished eating, I was clearing the plates, and having totally forgotten about his salt obsession, stabbed a piece of cashew chicken off his plate and shoved it in my mouth. Holy freaking crud!! I thought I'd been poisoned!! LOL It was hideously disgustingly gross. I asked him how in the world he could even taste his food past all that salt!! The weird part was he had normal blood tests, no blood pressure issues. Oh, and don't even get me started on the amount of sweetener he used in his coffee! blech!
I used to use a lot more salt when I was younger, but once I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, I cut most of it out. I rarely salt anything anymore, except eggs and potatoes (they just need salt).
I buy pink salt. When I grind it over my food, I can see it...LOL. I think that's so cool!! I think it helps me eyeball better how much I'm adding to my food. I prefer my salt coarsely ground. I can see it better!
I use unsalted chicken stock for cooking. I really like to be able to control ingredients as much as possible, but I do use a few canned/jarred veggies and such because I kill stuff I plant. ( I almost killed a cactus...and no, not by overwatering. Only me. LOL. ) I use less sodium if it's an option, and even then...I'll rinse beans if I'm making white chicken chili.
Other than that..bring on the salt! I looove me some salty foods!

To me, yes there is a difference in taste, but not a vast difference. The Himalayan pink salt tastes a little less harsh, and tastes cleaner, if that makes any sense. I actually found it at TJ Maxx. I love that they have an odd assortment of "fancy" food items.
I mostly just bought it because it's, well...pink!
