What rule(s) do you not follow?
And that is a good thing. Not bad. Trust me.

I have days where I don't quite hit my protein targets. I'd say they are rare now, but it's something I have to keep on. I pre plan my day, but sometimes things change, and I don't look back in my log until the day is over. I'm working on being mindful,of updating as I go. The other is taking my calcium in the evening. I got every day this week, but I catch myself even ignoring my reminder in my phone for some reason.
i think as others said, it's important to acknowledge where we're lagging but even more so, take steps to keep change it.
My clinic said one of the worst habits to let creep in is drinking with meals, it leads to over eating at meals, and increased hunger, because food doesn't stay in your pouch. I suggest trying to go cold turkey on this one asap! No cup at the table means no accidental sips!

That's a great idea! I will try that from now on. I think what caused this habit, was when I was 10 and had bad anxiety. I felt like I couldn't eat without a drink nearby because I was worried that I would choke on my food. The anxiety is gone now, but I still love drinking with my meals.
Speaking of protein... How much do you get in each day? My nutrition class said at least 80g, while my surgeon said at least 40g (for me, because I'm petite).
It is based on height to an extent I believe . I'm 5'4" and was told to aim for between 60-90. But from every thing I've read, 60 has been the lowest I've seen as a recommendation.
Your reasoning for having your cup made perfect sense at one time, but that's why it's so important for us to really look at every aspect of our lifestyle. Losing isn't just about what and how much we eat, but why and how etc.

Wow, 40 grams is the lowest I've ever heard a WLS surgeon recommending. Like others said, 60 grams is the lowest I've ever heard of.
As my calories rose during the weight losing phases, so did my protein grams -- at 1,000 and 1,200 calories I was easily hitting 85 - 100 grams a day.
I still hit at least 85 grams a day (am averaging 1725 cals/day right now at 135 pounds and at 2.5 years post-op). But I also eat a lot of great carbs (veggies, fruits, whole grains).
Not trying to tell you what to do -- just letting you know what has worked for me.

Sometimes my protein is lower than I'd like. I shoot for 90. On days that I work over 12 hours it is really hard to be motivated to do exercise. I don't take vitamins. My blood tests have shown me on the lower end of normal on some things but nothing is out of range so I don't take them.
