The one I had gave me my bone density numbers - very detailed if I may say, but I had to sign a paper that indicated that they are not a medical facility and they do not provide any bone density interpretation of the results nor any recommendations ...

The numbers I got was separate for head-on trunk- arms- pelvic- legs.. Very detailed - so I know what bones are weaker than others (lower density) .

Gwen is correct. I just had a Dexa for bome density done a few weeks ago, and it was covered by my insurance. I paid nothing.

The company I have used is called Dexafit you can check their website for explanations of services... And yes $150 is their standard price although they have packages as well and always have a groupon for the Dexascan, so I've got that portion for anywhere from $79-$99.

They also do metabolism testing which is different than the VO2 originally I signed up for the all 3 package.... but then the woman there convinced me not to do the VO2... I am not a runner like you and spastic on treadmills so I think she was fearing a fall or malfunction LOL. I did recently see you can do it on something other than a treadmill like a bike...that would be for me. As a runner you might find the information helpful.

I found the RMR - Resting Metabolic Rate information more helpful now that I am in Maintenance, I liked that it also tells you what you burn more efficiently fats or carbs...

The Dexascan for Body fat actually does give you your bone density as well...

On their website they do say it is HSA/FSA eligible...this must be something new, never noticed it before.

I would like to know the name of the place as well.... Since my son and DIL are moving I won't be getting it in Chicago anymore... If I am doing a Philadelphia drive by I could do it there...

No DEXAfits are in Philly yet. I'll have to ask about the RMR test tomorrow when I call- I worry the more I add on the more they may push me into their elite medical evaluation-- aka big $$.

I don't think I want to know which I burn more efficiently--(fats v. Carbs)-- I'd  likely use that info eat more of the one I'm more efficient at burning.

See my link to the previous poster.

I am not having trouble getting my dexascans covered by insurance, so I would think that your FSA should cover it.

Are you sure that your ins will not cover post-op dexascans?   The VO2 and body comp I can understand are more elective, but the dexascan is medically necessary post-op. (at least for me)

Talking about 2 different things here... the dexascan is the machine. Insurance will cover it for bone density, if you want body fat testing on the same type of machine you have to pay out of pocket or now it seems you can payout of your HSA/FSA account...

I've never had anything I submitted  for FSA refused, including over the counter meds.

I have. My kids have been in braces for over two years and every single month they ask for an explanation of the payment. You'd think they'd catch in by now.

You can make a case with FSA - that at your age with WLS  having DEXA will give you a base number to work with.

A lot of FSA spending can be for services you doc may recommend but insurance will not pay.

You can ask your doc for "a script" for Dexa body scan.
