Fun! I'm a former vegetarian, but I'll check it out! It's good you started this, there have been a few questions asked over the past couple of months about navigating wls while vegan or vegetarian!

Come on over and join the group!  Still pretty quiet in there.

Thanks for all your replies and help in keeping this thread active.  One way or the other (even if it means drinking protein shakes every day for the rest of my life) I have to figure out a way to make veganism work with my sleeve as for me being vegan isn't about food but who I am as an individual. It's tied into my spirituality and affects all my choices not just what I eat. And I definitely don't want to come across as some weirdo, preachy or anything and I don't want to convince people it's a good idea post surgery but for me it's not a choice it's just who I am. I know there is one dr who promotes it for his wls patients, Dr Davis in Houston, but not being in the area I don't have access to his practice. Just struggling to figure out how I can make this all work and hoping there are others out there to!

If you don't think I'm weird, I won't think you're weird.

Look at it this way -- after the zombie apocalypse, you and I will never fight over the same food.

Hi!  I was vegetarian for about 10 years from age 15-25 or thereabouts.  I'm a conscientious omnivore now, so no longer veg*n.  However, my bff is vegan, so I often have vegan days or vegan weekends when I'm with her :D

Not many. It's really hard to be a vegetarian and have WLS. Good luck to you! I was a vegetarian when I was 19, it was hard back then because there were not a lot of ready to eat options. At least now there are lots of "ready to eat"veggie proteins such as boca burgers, veggie crumbles, etc. Plus there are really good vegetarian protein shakes that have come out in the last 5 or 6 years that are sweetened with stevia (and not sugar).

I tried going plant based when I had my VSG. I didn't last long, but I did discover a meal delivery service that is absolutely amazing, it's veestro.  You should totally check it out.

I was a vegetarian for nearly ten years, from college until marriage. My husband, bless him, puts up with a lot. When we were newlyweds, he agreed to eat vegetarian with me, and for the most part he did. I knew he slipped off and got a burger occasionally, but it wasn't a big deal.

Anyway, one day our next-door-neighbor was chatting with me and mentioned that my husband was slipping out at night 2 or 3 in the morning, and he was waking her up. He's a huge night owl, and I was working 8-5. That night, I feared the worst. I laid in bed waiting until I heard the front door creak open and softly close.

I got up and followed him. He slipped around the back of the house and, from under the steps, pulled out a small hibachi. He lit it and proceeded to grill himself a steak. He was two-timing me with my own cousin's grass-fed beef.

After that, I started cooking meat for him, and soon after began eating it myself--because I could never not eat what I cooked.
