New Jack Sleever
I just had my VSG last week and I am not able to do #2 can anyone please tell me why and when will things normalize again, I would ask and did ask my Dr.s office but I have not heard back, also I am taking the laxative they prescribed and still nothing, don't know if it's because I am only on liquid, just a bit concerned. also a walk thru what to expect before I normalize aging would be tremendous coming from Sleeve'rs that been there done that experience, thanks again you guys for any help and God Bless us all...
Not sure what they gave you but a lot of people use Miralax regularly to keep things regular. I know when I was on liquids, that was pretty liquid as well... Don't let it go too far... try and get as much liquid in as you can, which is hard in the beginning....

thank you for your help, I finally did go to the bathroom last night but it was all liquid sludge like so I think I will be fine hopefully my surgeon staff will call me today, thanks a million again
If you had a bowel prep before surgery, along with your very sparse diet, then there may not be anything in there to poop out. Also the anesthesia slows things down, too.
Check with your surgeon but as long as you aren't uncomfortable try not to worry about it. It takes a while to get back to normal. Use Miralax if it is okay and also check about milk of magnesia and stool softeners.
Also, if you are following a low carb, high protein diet that can cause constipation issues as well.
Whatever you do, make sure you are getting enough fluids! Drink, drink, drink. And walk, walk, walk. That will help you get things moving.

i had one or two bouts of constipation following surgery and i was concerned about taking laxatives or fiber so early on, so i used glycerin suppositories. not glamorous by any stretch of the imagination....but it sure did the trick. i am one of the lucky ones who has been regular without fail ever since.
You may just not be eating/drinking enough to need to go, it was about 7-9 days before I went and while I was a little worried about it my nurse friend kept telling me to just wait and not to worry.
Now once you have gone, you do need to be mindful if you don't go for awhile but are eating a bit. A combo of pain pills and or focus on protein without things like bread or veggies to "mix things up" a bit did have me constipated a few weeks after my WLS. It's important to keep it in mind but things will not be the same as before. When you're only eating a couple ounces a meal vs a larger portions you could have before there will be a difference in the amount and frequency. It was not weird for me to go 2-3 days without going #2 until I got to about month 4-5ish when I was eating 4-6oz more often.

hey sweet. Congratulations on the surgery. I had the same problem. I drank 1-2 cups of alpine tea at night and the problem resolved itself, I've been regular ever since. Alpine tea is made by red seal and is a natural laxative and gets rid of excess water. I really enjoyed the tast as well so it was a way of upping my liquid intake. I'm in New Zealand so I hope you can find something similar. It's brilliant stuff.
