just wanted to share a link to a wls article. It's nice to see some balanced reporting on the subject.

But I wanted to climb through the screen and tell that woman to put down the Panera bread!

That was an interesting read.  The author said that they cut away a large portion of the stomach with gastric bypass which is incorrect as you know...  The 2 people in that article need to log on to OH! How many people do we know on these forums that have exceeded their surgeon's goals or weight loss?

Thanks for sharing.

Well, they do cut away a good portion.  They just don't remove it.

A year after his surgery, Keith weighed 284 pounds, down from his starting weight of 377, but not at his projected weight of 230. It is increasingly unlikely that he will get there.

Yet he is still fat, and still feels big. "I expected all my weight to be gone," Keith confessed over lunch at a sushi restaurant near his work. "I wanted to be 230. I was hoping."

I also want to tell the man that if he wants to lose more, he can. It's not magic!!

Personal responsibility, people!!

Exactly. And a good bra. Keeping the girls up in their proper place make us all look better whether we are 300 pounds or 150.

Looking our best does help us see the changes.

So much this! Good bras have been my rant for years! I never dress super high end or fancy, but always have a good bras, and proper fitting clothes. Spend the 12$ to get your clothes altered as needed! I always factor that into the price of anything I buy. Especially important at my higher weight.

What i don't like is that they are setting up for a "lowered expectations".

Goal of 230 is very realistic for the guy ,- but that tells him -that when he gets there - he can just give up.

And the 22 year old - 180? Yea... Not cool.

When you don't set a goal that is hard but doable - people would relax and give up trying...

I personally did not like my goal to be 148..but the doc explained to me that most people regained some after 2 years..And that it would be good to have some "room..."..Then settle at 155...If that what I eventually wanted. But to not worry about losing too much in the first year.

And yes , her eating sub and yogurt...In the first year? No wonder she is not at goal..

Agreed. I've written before about my dislike of my clinics conservative projections. I get the need for realistic expectations but I think it's too conservative. They projected me to settle between 290 and 230. I'm ignoring it.
