New Medicare Requirements

My surgery is scheduled for January 2017.  The receptionist at my surgeons office just told me that in 2017 the requirements for Bariatric surgery under Medicare have changed quite a lot.  They now require 3 months of nutrition counseling.

Has anyone heard of this?  I have searched the forums and have done many google searches and I cannot find this change.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Medicare.gov for your info as that is the best place to find accurate information. Also after this Christmas week-end you might want to call the 800# and ask yourself. By now you should have received your printed copy of Medicare and You 2017 in the mail. It was mailed back in October. You can also access your account with Medicare by signing up for access to your info.

Here is a link for the PDF of the printed document that was mailed to you. https://www.medicare.gov/pubs/pdf/10050-Medicare-and-You.pdf

Here is the home page for Medicare https://www.medicare.gov/

Good luck with you new journey.

Thanks- that is a great idea, go right to the source.  I did not know I could create an account, I will do that too.

Haven't been on Medicare, but just to give you a comparison: On Medicaid I had to do 2 visits a month with my nut & 1 visit a month with my PCP for 12 months. Learned so much in that time, and it really helped them get to know me better so when I ran into obstacles they had my back & fought the bureaucracy with & for me. :)

Good luck with your surgery!
