I'm still a bag of nerves. 10am today I start my Miralax ****tail. Oh what joy!  Going to have the RNY as its my best chance of getting ride of my Type II diabetes or making it much better. Hoping for the latter. Is there a reason why the VSG doesn't have the same result? A few people I know think I don't need this surgery. They are all very thin without health problems. I'm determined to live a very long life.

Nobody knows exactly why RNY is more successful with putting diabetes Type II into remission.  Surgeons I have talked with believe it has to do with the bypassing the duodenum (upper part of the small intestine).

Cleveland clinic had a huge study which showed the diabetes going into remission. I had problems with my high fastings so I asked my endo Doctor for Toujeo. This brought  my numbers down. But they were so high because I was eating all the wrong things and way too much if them. Now the past three months I've been very careful and reduced my Toujeo.

I have been down the "A few people think...." road. Do yourself a favor and forget what others think. At 430 lbs., I was determined that I needed to do this for myself, not anyone else. I dropped to 314 in roughly five months, and I wouldn't go back in a long shot.

Were you on insulin? I've been dealing with this for at least twenty years. Three Bariatric surgeons and my own endo doc said for me the RNY is my best chance.

Statistically, RNY is better at putting Type 2 diabetes in remission than VSG. No one is certain why, but the difference is clear.

There are a lot of fariables, but nothing is guaranteed. Eating right after surgery will help. But yhis is your best shot.

Good luck.

Hello,

I have type 2 Diabetes, I was diagnosed in 2012, I had my surgery on December 5th, thinking I was having the RNY but woke up in recovery to learn I had the VSG, I didn't take any diabetes medications while in the hospital, and my blood sugars were really low, when I got home I tested several times a day and my sugars were always between 3.5 and 4.8, without the medication. Granted I wasn't really eating much of anything. I made an appointment with my doctor and brought in my meter and he told me to stop taking the diabetes medication. He will run a blood test in 4 weeks and if everything checks out will remove my diabetes diagnosis. Basically I'm saying it is possible to get rid of type 2 diabetes with the Sleeve. Good luck tomorrow!
