Is there a time frame with a gastric bypass? I take one metformin, and one antibiotic. I've been crushing for  15 months...  can I sell my pill crusher?

is it time?

My husband had his RNY with the same doctor group (P Rantis) and he did not crush his pills.

Like Gwen wrote - you need to to ask Dr Kane.

I still cut mine in half - but more because I had a hiatal hernia repair.  The herna repair stopped my GERD - I recently read a study that RNY and Hernia repair has better long term results to prevent GERD reoccurace than just the hernia repair - so I do not want the heart burn to come back and some pills are pretty big.

Ask your surgeon - it is probably somewhat drug dependent

As i was leaving hospital- they gave me 2 pain pills. And a little bit of water. I took it. I was taking pills 3 days post op.

Initially- with large or hard pills - I had to cut them in half or quarters.  But..Even now - some pills are still no go. Like hard - large vitamin pills. If they are big and really hard - I try to avoid them. I still prefer capsules. They break down fast and don't bother my pouch or stoma.

I had some large pills stuck in my stoma - so I am rather sensitive, my body knows almost intuitively what pills are no go. I have a hard time swallowing them.  I.e. the huge calcium pills...Or very large Kirkland brand multi.

Unless you crushing them to make sure they get absorbed - try to take pills and see what is happening.

If I want to make sure the meds are deliver almost instantly - like pain pills or some of my gut meds - I chew them...Then follow with a sip of drink. They are often nasty - but it works.  And the nastiness last a minute or 5 sec... You can get used to that.

I took all pills except for Ursodiol the normal way since the day I was released from the hospital.  I had to wait a couple of weeks before I could swallow my Ursodiol tablets whole.  I also couldn't swallow calcium tablets whole, so I took calcium via powders (Upcal) and chews instead.
