^^^^What she said.

In studies of regain after WLS, there was a direct correlation between drinking with meals and weight gain. It's an integral part of a successful plan.

Being pretty new, only a month ahead of you, I read posts like this over and over before and after surgery.

I may not be absolutely perfect in other arenas, but I most definitely follow this rule.

Just don't put any water out there... and you won't pick it up. I just tell the waittress I don't need anything to drink, and that solves that when I'm out.

What it did for me, was to reinforce my chewing. I had no idea how little I chewed food until I didn't have something to wa**** down! LOL

I'm worried because I know myself, and it's going to be so hard to change. I knew surgery wasnt magic but I still had some wool pulled over my eyes about it lol.

I only lost 10 pounds a month.  It ads up, so forget about that and concentrate on your eating challenges.

GET HELP. PROFESSIONAL HELP. NOW. Find a counselor and begin to talk through these issues.  My surgeon now has a psych coming to his office to see his pre and post op patients.  I could not have worked through issues on my own.

I needed to take a Mindful Eating course - twice.  Although it was not eating disorder therapy, it seemed that to me.  I took it once 3 months after surgery and it helped me deal with that set of feelings after giving up eating as a coping strategy.  Then I took it again after a year - to help me into maintainance.  I may be ready to take it again.

It is unreasonable to think that the surgery is all we need.  Get an appointment with your surgeon and find some psych resources.

In the meantime, know that you have supportive thoughts coming your way.

Could you post a reference to that course if you don't mind?  I'd love to see it.  Thanks.

You know you are not following rules.  Get counseling.

Unless you change what you are doing and approach to the whole WLS - before 2 years is over - you may be go back to the weight you started - having on top of that medical issues related to RNY (like low iron, mineral - vitamin deficiencies) I know 2 people IRL that initially lost 100 lbs (only 100 lbs) in the first year - and 2 years later put it back on and then some... They told me 'the surgery did not work for me". They had the same surgery I had, even the same doc and support system.  THEY wasted the opportunity they had to improve their quality of life. Its a shame.

Don't waste your time. Get counseling, start being serious about your lifestely.

It is not too late yet. In a year from now - it would be worse.

April, I'm still waiting for that click to happen. :)

Or rather I stopped waiting for it to happen years ago. Don't wait for a click. Start with things that seem doable for you at the moment and go from there. You know things have to change and that's already a very important step.

---

I don't know how your meals look at the moment. Maybe start with one meal that would be considered "on plan". If you drink three cans of diet soda, drink only one if going cold turkey seems to scary.

Maybe stop drinking with your food as the only step right now?

If counseling is available to you - go for it. If not, there are lots and lots of online resources and books that can help tremendously.

You've gotten a lot of good advice in the past. I'd suggest looking through your old posts and re-reading some of the replies you've received in the past six months for some additional thoughts.
