Carb and sugar cravings

I'm 5 months post op and noticing that I'm craving carbs and sugar more than before surgery, particularly at night.

I know stress is a factor - I have a very high stress job - but it seems worse post-op.

Anyone see this and have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Have you been eating many simple carbs or sugar? Whenever I eat more, the cravings get much worse.

Not too many, but more than I'd like. I fight the urges, but sometimes they win -- mostly at night. I'm also guessing it may be blood sugar related. I have had reactive hypoglycemia before surgery and maybe this is the same thing, since I can go hours without eating. Will keep an eye on this. Thanks for the response!

I could be meditating on the beach in Hawaii at dawn and would still crave carbs. A craving is a craving-- outside influences may magnify the cravings-- but I don't believe the absence of those stressors make you crave any less. Its just not magnified.

have you been tracking you carb count? what's been you daily intake?  My only advice, find a hobby-- something to keep your mind busy. Crosswords, knitting, etc. Or drink some water when you get the urge to much something carby.

Too funny and I can relate... maybe I should book a trip to Hawaii to test this out for myself. :)

My carb count ranges from 50 - 75 g per day. Not super low but not high carb by any means.

this is normal- limit your carbs as much as possible- find something else to do- i usually walk the pups instead or get a decaf coffee with some low carb milk or almond milk

I've taken to drinking a cup of coffee at night (decaf obviously) in lieu of giving in to the craving monster. It's really worked well, and with the right SF syrups and some cream, it's like a treat and my mind is happy!

Decaf coffee can still contains some caffeine. Not a lot - but make sure it does not affect your sleep.

hala, I cut out caffeine pre op, but switched to decaf. Do think there Is there enough caffeine in there to irritate the stomach? I don't have it every day, but definitely a few times a week.

only you would know that.

does your stomach get irritated after you drink it?

the decaf not only have some caffeine but also contains trace chemicals they use to process the coffee to make it "decaffeinated".

if your stomach doesn't get irritated - drink it- but if you have any discomfort - don't do it.
