Pain medications, what helps you?
Good morning,
I had RYN in 2008 and taken Tylenol for pain, I have a couple pulled muscles that are causing me a lot pain, Doctors keep telling me Ibuprofen is the best but it has aspirin, since surgery I was told no aspirin,
SO what helps you with this type of pain, Tylenol is not doing the trick and its hurts my stomach more than help my pain.
Any suggestions please,

Try topical stuff for pulled muscles. I like to put epsom salts in the bath and soak, that really seems to help. I also like Tiger Balm, it helps warm up and numb the area a bit. Very helpful for sore legs when I've overdone it with cycling!

The reason they worry about the asprin aspect is that it thins the blood. And its NSAIDs in general, they worry about bleeding. But as explained to me occasional use shouldnt be an issue unless you have an ulcer or some other reason not to take it. You are far enough post op it should be fine. But high doses for long periods can wear away at the stomach lining thus why dont want to take for prolonged periods for anyone.

Some will never get an ulcer from NSAID use, some will get an ulcer if they use them once. It's not worth the risk. I had an ulcer and never touched an NSAID. It isn't worth the risk.
Anyone with a chronic condition isn't going to use NSAIDS as an occasional thing. They'll end up using them a lot, and should just find a better alternative right from the start.

Tramadol (RX) works for me when Tylenol doesn't.

I agree. When I get up in the morning I am in a lot of pain. First thing I do is take a hot shower and I adjust the shower head so that it is a very forceful stream. It really helps.
When I am traveling and I don't have a shower available with an adjustable shower head I can tell the difference. I hurt all day.

I use a compound ibuprofen ointment. It does not cause ulcers as it does not get into the blood stream and is absorbed transdermally. However, it tends to be expensive, and I am not sure if you can use it with the gastric bypass. Tylenol works great intravenously for me. Oral, not so much. Meloxicam works great but I've not had it since surgery because it is also an NSAID. I am paranoid about ulcers even with the sleeve, especially with all my stomach issues lately.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
