I just went to my 1st appointment for the sleeve. I will be doing supervised weight loss. How much weight is ok to lose, and your insurance still pay. I'm 5'4, and 255 pounds.

I gained 7 pounds. You just have to show up for the nutritionist and there was no way in hell I was going to leave it to the good judgement of the insurance company.

This is one of those "depends on the insurance" things. For some, once you're in the program it doesn't matter. For others it does. Call and ask.

Doctors have rules and insurance companies have rules. All are different.

Some doctors won't do the surgery if you gain weight. Some insurance companies require you to lose. Some go by starting weight. Some go by day of surgery weight.

You need to make calls and do research. Get a copy of your written policy.

I lost around 30 pounds. The rule of thumb is NOT to go below whatever BMI your insurance requires for the surgery. Some want to see a 10% loss, some companies dont care.
