Does anyone else feel wasteful sometimes?
I hate waste too so I do a lot of meal planning... before I cook I think of what I might have leftover and how I can turn that into the next day's meals... get the most bang for my buck.
I do it at restaurants too... ask for a box right away so it's useable by everyone and can be turned into other things. Example... a 1/2 of steak & veggies became a great brunch the next day http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2016/03/lotsa -love-for-leftovers-9-fajita.html
Buffets are hard... nice to have the variety but yeah hard to justify the $$ for what I eat and without a doubt I will take one too many bites because it's there and feel crummy. So I avoid unless it's a big family thing and then aim for the protein.
I went to a buffet for the first time this past weekend, and while it's good that I can eat a variety of things and pick and choose, I feel that I pay too much for what I can eat and then feel wasteful for having to throw things away. I've had to pitch a lot of food over the past few months, and that was unheard of prior to my surgery! I ALWAYS cleaned my plate.
you are still ". Wasting" food that your body stores or you poop mostof it out.
It is a learning process. I still "clean my plate" but have learned not to put too much food on the plate to begin with. The further out I have gotten, I have learned how much I can eat of certain things. I rarely throw out anything. I do go to buffets with my bf because he loves them. I know it is a waste of money for me, but he pays so I go. I eat what I can and never overeat. When we go out to a restaurant, I generally eat half and take the rest home to eat the next day.

I love the variety from a buffet and will go for various breakfast buffets for this reason, especially at hotels. I will usually take some fruit home so it's not a complete waste but as others have pointed out, I don't sweat what I'm not ready to eat. Gaining weight & poor health is not saving any of us money.
Did you guys not have the options of a bariatric surgery card? My surgeon actually gives all of his clients a card that is signed (and looks official lol) that explains I have had weight loss surgery and therefore can only eat in limited amounts. It's a "kid's meal" card so to speak, that requests special consideration for the diet and will allow you to order off the child's menu in any restaurant. I used it a lot when I was coming up. Now I can easily eat in excess of 10,000 calories per day so I haven't needed it in years! But I would suggest looking into it as it did initially save me a ton of money when eating out!

I was thinking about those, too, and wondered how many buffets will honor them.
IMHO, all-you-can-eat buffets = NOT for WLSers .. The restaurant usually ends up the "winner" with us, $-wise ...

Restaurants are under no obligation to honor these cards, even after you've disclosed your personal medical information to a pimply-faced teenager. You can achieve the same thing just asking for half-portions, explaining that you enjoy good food but have a tiny appetite.

I don't go to buffets unless a friend really wants to go, and then I order off the menu instead of going for the buffet. I only eat about a cup to a cup & a half of food, and no way am I going to pay $10-12 (or more) to eat a cup of food. At least if you order off the menu, you can take your leftovers home and make 2-3 meals out of it.
I know this is gross but I look at the leftovers in the refrigerator and think I can put them directly into the garbage, or I can run them through my system and put them into the sewer system tomorrow plus wear the extra calories on my waist. It makes throwing food away easy for me.
