Runny nose every time I eat

I've heard of different signs after WLS that indicate a person is full - some people get the hiccups or their nose runs once they're full. I've read a few different things on this board and at support groups in person but I've never had that happen to me.

But over the last 2-3 months every single time I eat from about the second bite I get a runny nose. It's maddening! It doesn't really matter at all and I'll deal with it for the rest of my life but it's so random. Am I the only one?

When I first had surgery in 2001, I would get a runny nose when I was full.  Now, I get the hiccups!  So, you are not the only one and it can change from one to the other or it could stop all together.  I am just thankful I still to this day experience it and will stop when it starts.

But it's not when I'm full lol. It's every time I eat, like almost the second I put food in my mouth! I kind of wanted it to happen when I got full because that sounds like a great stop sign to me...

Mine runs the whole time I eat. Even when I drink shakes. I hiccup/belch when I'm full.

Hi mute,

We did a search for you and this has been talked about and posted for years.  So don't feel like you are different.  To this day if I eat too fast my nose runs.

Lol thanks Kathy, you didn't need to go to the effort! I've seen those kinds of posts before but the majority talk about when they're full their nose starts to run and mine runs the whole time. More of an observation, not really a problem :)

I noticed you said it happens when you start eating.....  Do you find it's with only certain foods?  I wonder if you are having an allergic reaction   Try to make a note when it happens and what you are eating? What spices it may have on it?  LOL and keep a big box of Kleenex handy

Hmm, I'll start paying more attention but I have a pretty varied diet right now and I think it happens no matter what I eat from fish to beef jerky to cheese! But I'll start tracking it to see if there's a rhyme or reason :)

And I never carried tissues before except in allergy season lol! Now I always do!

It has to do with the vagus nerve.  Sometimes I get it with the first bite.  Also might start sneezing with one bite.  I stop eating and eat again when it stops.
