Sad at the Activity

Ugh, I find WLS FB groups to be the worst! The misinformation on them is downright scary. Many of them devolve into people wanting to hook up after they lose weight - which is fine if that's what you're looking for, but I'm not. And after surgery those groups made me feel very badly about myself for not keeping up with the people there.

Regardless, I joined here a little over 18 months ago. If this site isn't to your liking now maybe stick around and keep posting and commenting to make it better. Otherwise I'm not sure what the point is to post about the good ole days?

I agree that posts and responses are way down. Ten years ago, OH was it. There is a lot of competition out there. And every surgeon seems to have their own FB site for local support. But from what I've seen, the smaller the support group, the crappier the advice. OH was even better when it was bigger.

But it shrank because people wandered away. Stick around and breathe some life into it.

Yes, it's way different from when I was lurking 10 years ago but I still have learned so much. I don't mind that it is not as "busy" as it was but I hate seeing a post have 123 views and no responses. To me that's just rude. It's like people pick and choose what they want to answer. I'm still very new so I try to help as much as possible even if I don't have an answer. I just want them to feel welcome at least.

What's rude about not responding to a post? Nobody here is obligated to read nor reply to anything if they don't feel like it.

What I find sadder is when someone complains about the "good ole days" disappear for months maybe years then someone else will post about how sad they are to see the lack of activity.

A forum is only strong enough when people stay & give back to the people who've helped/need help. Too often people ask then get help then disappear only to return when they need help again, never staying in between.

What do you expect when people, a lot of people act like that? You only end up with a hand full of vets & an army of newbies.

New people to come and fill our shoes. I moved on with my life. Weight loss surgery is now an after thought. At 1 or 2 years out, it was my everything. But now I'm doing what WLS gave me the opportunity to do, which is thrive professionally. No one wants to give a 500 lb smart guy a job, but a 200 lb guy- they line up around the block!

I'll try to be more active, but this is what I'm saying- there use to be a vitality to the board that is now gone. I was just a drop in the bucket back then.

we all move on with our lives. Some of us make time to stay around and pay it forward  in honor of those who were here when we were newbies.

I love how it's only the losers with no life who stick around  while everyone else goes off to some sort of Hollywood lifestyle

They always say that over on the band board, too. "I am too busy living my life!" But they're not too busy to come back and ask for help when everything goes to hell. They're just too busy to help anyone else ever.
