Vitamin D 50,000 - Anyone who has taken this dosage
Good morning,
So I purchased the Bio-tech and started taking it, my vitamin D is 20 now, so I am trying to raise it
however my doctor gave me the gel caps of 1,000 first and then she changed to 2,000 daily- which I read we don't absorb
my question to you is have you gotten sick on this dosage or anything weird happen,
the first Monday which was 3 weeks ago I felt fine on the fist day but the next day I was aching on my feet and hands, I read that I need it take vitamin K2 so I did the pain went down
The second Monday I started having like hot flashes; not sure whether this was related to the vitamin or something else going on,
I am skeptical to take another one before hearing others experiences,
Thank you in advance,
I've taken 10,000 IUs for six months at a time, with no symptoms. I know doctors recommend much less but I've read some studies that challenge this advice, and recommended levels in other countries are much higher than in the US. When I started, I was at 25. When last tested I was at 65. I've also found that when my D levels are higher I don't get colds in the winter.
Just sharing my personal experience...your mileage may vary.

Do you have the DS or a malabsorbtive procedure? Typically you only take the super high dose for 4-8 weeks and then drop to a lower dose. You can get vitamin D toxicity taking 50,000 units a day if you are absorbing everything. Calcium will also begin to accumulate in your blood (hypercalcimia) which can be extremely dangerous.
If you have the VSG you will absorb the vitamin D fine in the regular prescription or OTC capsules. If you have the DS you always will need the water-soluble forms of ADEK so they are utilized. I know quite a few DS patients that take the 50,000 IU dose.
My vitamin D is chronically low. Obesity causes this, too. I took a super high 20k dose for six weeks (one pill 1x week) and now take 2000/day and my levels tapered out. This was post-surgery for me.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I took that high dose also but my doctor had me only taking it 2 or 3 times a week. I don't really remember now. I initially was only supposed to do it for a couple of months but I was being stubborn and my labs took a long time to improve. So I was on that dose for 6 months. Anyway, I had no issues at all taking them.
I take 20,000mg a day of Vitamin D3 in the form of liquid- Vitamin Shoppe brand. I was deficient pre-WLS for over a decade and could never bring my numbers up... I discovered the liquid right after surgery when I was researching vitamins. I started with 5,000mg a day as that is what my capsules had been and then worked my way up based on blood work.

Yes, the bottle is marked 5,000. But if you read the instructions 5,000= 5 drops. So 1 drop=1,000. SO I take 20 drops all at once. I put it in a medicine cup and add a little water. At first i used to add a touch of OJ, but I've gotten used to it. Don't put it directly in your mouth...
been there done that :)
This is the stuff! It lasts a long time and they do put it on sale buy one get one 1/2 off periodically when they have their VS brand sale.

I are 100K to 150K (2 to 3 tablets a day) and I've been taking that much for a decade, and I've never had bad labs (always in the middle of the D scale), but I've had the DS...so I need more. That level of D could be toxic long term if you don't have malabsorbtion.
