Any suggestions on what type or style bathroom scale is best? My weight is 381. Want to get an accurate reading starting this journey!

If you want to spend some money, they have some that are wifi enabled, and can sync with myfitnesspal and Fitbit, do body fat measurements (though they aren't very reliable for that).

If you want an ordinary scale, try it out in the store. Get on and off several times, and see if it keeps giving you the same number. If it gives you different readings, choose another.

I use the Garmin Index scale.  Weighs up to 400 pounds.  WIFI enabled, measures weight, BMI, fat percentage, muscle weigh****er weight, and bone weight.

The Garmin Connect application gives reports from the scale, tracking device, and My Fitness Pal.

I am at goal...initially I had a cheap simple scale...now - 8 years post op I splurge on a fancy Withings scale.

So far I really like it. It is very repeatable, Wi-Fi, and measures weight, body fat % epwater..etc etc...

I like that I can set it up on a floor or carpet...

You can get a cheap one first... And later decide what you may really like. Initially - the weight was I cared about.  Now - at goal - I am more interested in my body hydration, and body fat, muscle mass, etc... So even I my weight goes up - as long as I gain muscles (trying to) I am ok with that..

The one I have has held up for more than 10 years and weighs very accurately up to 440lbs. I find it very reliable to my Doc's readings. I convinced several other people to buy it over the years and theirs held up really well too.

I bought a Detecto balance scale like they used to have in the doctors office (some of them have gone electronic now).  I got it when I started the process because I felt I had to have a reliable one for the long run.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065EQJU/ref=oh_aui_deta ilpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

While some scales are cheap and crappy, most variability comes from our bodies.   If you are going to pay more than $20, you might want to wait and see what your fitness needs are.  The scales that sync with your fitness tracker (if you get one) may be a good investment.  They cost about $100.

I got a $10 digital scale and it has been good from 280 pounds down. I only weigh once a week, so others might wear it out sooner.

Best wishes on your journey

Sharon

I have a Withings Body Composition Scale that I love.  That said...

If you're a running, might become a runner, swim, or bike, I recommend going with the new Garmin wifi scale.  Since you'll likely get a Garmin device for tracking your workouts.

If you're not/never going to do anything that's GPS tracked, get the Fitbit scale since you'll probably get a Fitbit to track activity.
