I will also repeat DO NOT DO LIFTING - or there could be serious consequences like having to require more surgery for a hernia.  This is serious stuff.

I lost my first week and then had a 22 day stall (and gained a few). Most people gain from surgery and take a few weeks to lose that gain. Now here's what you really need to know. The head hunger and mental struggle is real and stronger than you ever thought!!! This is a head game that you will have to figure out. I think our brains miss the food more than our stomachs. Just know that you might even go up a couple of pounds every once in a while. This isn't magic. It just gives us a fighting chance at weight loss. Hang in there and be patient (yeah, hard I know!)

DO not compare your loss to anyone else's.  Focus on following your rules, get your liquid in.  Also remember that the nerves in your stomach were severed so you can't trust anything that it's telling you right now.  It's a lying liar that lies.

Hunger pangs can often be caused by acid - are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium?  If not, consider starting one.  Work on getting your fluids in - that's really important.

You didn't put your weight on all in a day, it's not going to come off in a day.  Have patience, stick to your rules, and you'll get there.

I cannot emphasize enough the do not compare yourself this early out mantra. I did that A LOT for the first 3 months. To the point that I was very stressed about it and was pretty convinced that the surgery just wasn't that successful for me. But I was losing, just not at an extreme rate that some people were. Now 18 months after my surgery I'm still losing and I consider myself pretty successful in that I've reached and surpassed my goal weight.

So take it from me that you should pace yourself and do everything you can to get to your goal EXCEPT compare yourself or overdo it so soon after surgery.

Oh and you're going to have cravings, especially this soon out. That will go away though.

I remember that at my 10 day check-up I had only lost 5 pounds after surgery (and felt a bit discouraged).  I'm at goal now (6 months after surgery).  My stats by month are in my signature.

So, don't worry and don't lift anything heavy! Best of luck on your weight loss journey.

You had major surgery.

You will lose more weight this year than you ever have or will in your life. Enjoy the ride. Read some posts.

You can seriously damage yourself with intense exercise after surgery.  First of all, when we are obese we have more strain on our bodies anyway.  Secondly, you can tear your incisions open and cause internal bleeding.  You can also damage your newly-altered digestive system.  Take it easy.  I pushed it after my cyst surgery in 2004 and I wound up getting a bad hernia.

Also, 6 pounds in 9 days is really good.  The closer you weigh to 200 pounds the slower the weight loss, usually.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
