How to get a DXA scan?

At my annual physical, my doctor has ordered a bone density DXA scan.

I just had a body composition DEXA scan.  I know you don't live in Utah, but there is a place about a half an hour from my house that does this as a fitness thing.  They also do oxygen-while-exercising assessments, etc.  all kinds of stuff for fitness buffs.  Although I was able to get a discount through my husband's work, their normal price for the DEXA, I think, is about $89.

I just mention this place near me because possibly there are fitness kinds of places near you that offer these.  Maybe search beyond classic medical providers.

good luck!

There are DEXA scan for the whole body - and there are Dexa scans for body composition.

The one for bone - only doc can order.

But since the DEXA scans are popular for body compositions - there are a number of places that can do it now .

I am scheduled to have mine at local university - The cost- $125. they will not interpret bone density number for me- but I should get a good understanding what is my body fat , muscle mass, one, water,. etc..

I googled DEXA scan body fat analysis in my city and came up with 2 centers who does that...

I've also often seen specials on groupon but check the details. I think they were either $50 or 99

+1 for the "check out universities" advice.

I got my body composition scan with RMR (resting metabolic rate) done at the University of Pittsburgh for $50.

It was through the neuromuscular research lab, and here is the link:  http://www.nmrl.pitt.edu/wellness-testing-faqs

Is that the same as the dexa bone/muscle/metabolism scans?  They actually do them at the bariatric center I go to.  I don't need a prescription.  I'm 39 and they are doing one.  They charge $60 for me.  I'm not sure if it's clients in the program only or not.  I have to pay the fee because apparently my HMO does not cover it.

I've had so many scans lately, though, so I figure one more can't hurt.  No superpowers to report yet, lol.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

The Dexascan for body composition will also show you bone density but not visa versa.... Dexafit has groupon usually for $79 or 89 at any given time. Insurance will only pay for the bone density dexascan. You may or may not have been able to get a bone scan presurgery for bone density as there is a weight limit. I know I tried and couldn't get one.
