Where do I start?
Wow, so much has happened since I last posted, not sure where to start! Had my post-RNY 8-mo check-up on Thursday.
All labs are great & I've lost all my excess weight. MY NUT wants me to add more calorie-dense food so I don't go any lower.
So I need to eat more nut butters and tofu -- I just have to figure out how to add them in! (if anyone has a good recipe for low-sugar tofu pudding, please let pm me)
THe NSVs keep coming...
- On Saturday I jogged a mile in just over 10 minutes. To a real runner, that would be laughable; But to me - I've never run that fast, even when I was younger!
- I tried on a size 8 in pants and it actually fit. I have never in my life been a size 8! (Granted I'm sure I'll go up a few sizes what's my weight stabilizes, but it is fun to experience this!).
- A recent sleep study showed that my sleep apnea is so much better that they have approved me for an oral appliance... If it works, that means no more CPAP! Am hoping that will cut down on the constant sinus infections I have had for many years.m hoping that will cut down on the constant sinus infections I have had for many years.
- Tried on a bunch of my daughter's shirts and sweaters, and about half of them fit. Little does my 17-yo know that Mama is going to start stealing HER clothes for a change!
So grateful to have a place to share these things with people who get it. My husband and daughter are supportive, but have been slim their entire lives and simply do not understand how enormous these little changes feel!

Posts like yours make me so thankful for my surgeon, his staff and his dietitian.
When we reach goal, we are advised to lose 10, 20 or even 30 additional pounds. The people in his support group that are in their second year often look too skinny. People in their third year after surgery look fantastic. They have gone through the Bounceback regain period. Their faces have filled in and lost the sunken look. They are maintaining their goal weight easily.
I am at nine years out and maintaining my goal weight. If I had added extra calories at eight months, I would be much heavier now. To be honest, I ended up loving the too skinny phase. It was fun to wear size 0.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I think your nutritionist gave you really, really crappy advice. Run away.
I would not add extra food, and certsinly NOT extea xalorie dense food. I would bet my house that you'll end up regretting it.
Keep doing what you are doing. You're eating will creep up on its own, without intentionally eating more.
Even if you listen to what White Dove and I wrote, chances are extremely high you will be posting a year from now about fighting a 20 pound regain, and you are desperate to make it stop. If you add in calorie dense foods, I would guarantee it.

I tried this years ago at a Thanksgiving meal with a vegan friend and it was actually really good! I'm not much for tofu, but this was actually a good way to get in some protein before I transitioned to solid food. A bit high on the carbs to have too often, but much better than regular pudding I imagine.
- 1 package soft silken tofu
- 2T unsweetend cocoa powder
- 1/4 c splenda or stevia
- pinch of salt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Blend until smooth and chill in the fridge. Make sure to cover with plastic wrap so you don't get a skin on the pudding. 1/4 of the recipe is 120 cal, 7g protein, 10g carbs.
