Hypothyrodism and weight loss
I will be having the Sleeve in one week and I am really concerned if I will be able to lose weight. I have no thyroid, it was removed due to a goiter and cysts. I have a terrible time losing even one pound because of this. My biggest fear is I will have this surgery, have 80% of my stomach removed and still not lose weight. I've been on the pre-op diet for a week now and have lost 6 pounds is all. Eating 4 high protein meal replacements a day and one meal which consists of a small chicken tender baked and broccoli or green beans. NO oils, sauces, and nothing touching my lips that should not be there. I drink 60 ounces of water a day, or more. I have talked to others that have lost as much as 20 lbs in the two weeks before surgery. So now, needless to say I am so scared I will never be able to lose it. Has anyone else hear had their thyroid removed and if so, how was your weight loss? Thanks so much. Im new here. I live a long way from my doctor so I can't join the support groups, and I needed one.
If you are on meds and your levels are good, you will be able to lose weight just fine. You just have to keep your calories low, just as the rest of us did.

I lost ten pounds on a two week diet that was only clear liquids. Broth, sugar-free jello, water and sugar-free juices. That was a huge success for me. I would never have lost that much drinking meal replacements and eating chicken and vegetables.
Weight loss will not be that fast after your surgery. Don't worry about others, just work on getting to your goal weight. If you follow your diet and continue to eat healthy, you will lose your excess weight. Thyroid function can be duplicated with Synthroid and other medicines.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
6lbs in a week is good! One thing you have to try to do, is never compare yourself to others!
I have hypothyroidism... I still have my thyroid, but I'm also on .175 of Synthroid, and my levels have been good for over a year. I had RNY in May 2016, and since then I've lost 77lbs. I stay on target with my diet 90% of the time (I have had a couple of alcoholic drinks here and there since I hit 90 days out, which is OK by my doc). I don't formally exercise, but I walk some, and generally move more than I did.
You CAN lose the weight, even with hypothyroidism. Just keep in regular contact with your doctor (PCP) to be sure your numbers are still good.
I was on a LC diet for two weeks, and liquid diet for 3 days prior to my surgery. I lost 9 lbs. I think your 6lbs is awesome :)

I have thyroid issues too. I take Naturethroid daily. My weightloss was slower than others, but it happened. I'm in a stall now since I'm down to the last pounds, but I never could have gotten to where I'm at now without the surgery. Before RNY, the best I could hope for on a very strict diet, was to maintain. You will lose!

6# in one week is great. Not sure how much you thought you would lose. I have my thyroid but have hypothyroid and on meds for years... I couldn't lose weight before surgery, that is why I had it.... I have lost the weight and am at goal. No regrets.

I have no thyroid either. It was irritated due to Graves' disease. I have lost and maintained the loss of 121# for nearly 7 years. It is totally possible.
