Hiya I'm new on to this forum, im 7 years post op and I'm struggling with weight gain, my 1st year I lost all my weight I went from 21st to 12.12lbs but yo-yoed to 13.5lbs, I was really happy with my weight loss and was a comfortable size 16, I knew if I wanted to be slimmer I would have to diet or get to the gym but I was quite happy as I was. In 2013 I gave birth to my son and obviously gained weight I went up to 15.7lbs to my horror I have battled with my weight since and I feel it's now getting out of control, I'm so embarrassed about it and the looks and stares I get now from people that know I had surgery is like disbelief that I've gained after having a bypass, I even get people say to me did the surgery but work????????is there any1 out there that has or is going through the same thing and how I can get back on track without surgery as I can't afford that option.

The first thing you need to do is start measuring and logging everything that you put into your mouth using something like MyFitnessPal.  That will let you see what you're ingesting and what you need to modify.

From there, I suggest working to get back to your basics.  Here are mine, yours might vary slightly.

1. Prioritize protein and water
2. Deprioritize carbs, especially the refined and processed ones
3. Make the most of healthy fats
4. Eat three meals a day with no snacks
5. Avoid liquid calories (breakfast protein shake is the exception)
6. Weigh portions, log everything consumed
7. Eat mindfully and with no distractions aside from real live people
8. Move as much as possible
9. Weigh myself daily
10. Be kind to myself

You CAN do this.  Your tool is still there, you just need to remember how to work it again :)

Thanks so much for ur reply, I know I need to go back to basics but stick to it, u mentioned liquid calories? Im unsure what they are? Is that Alcohol and fizzy drinks? I do drink the odd fizzy but it's diet mainly unless I have a mixer with a spirit pin the pub?

Mum finking of going back on my protein shakes as I find this easier to watch Wat I eat, I do graze a lot during the day which I fink has added to the weight gain, but that is because I still can't eat a big portion of food, I also drink with food as I do get very thirsty, I was not told about drinking and eating together pre op which I fink is a habit I find hard to get out of, many thanks for ur reply, well done with ur loss, will check out ur journey, Natasha.

This may be obivous, but I will state it.  Any high calorie drink is liquid calories - they go right through our pouches and because they are in liquid form they are highly and quickly absorbed.

Yes - alcoholic drinks, but also mocha frappachinos, protein drinks, any non-diet drinks (and even semen).

Although I am a vigilant label-reader, I get tripped up every so often.  The Low-Cal Gatorade is still 150 cal a bottle. I had a few before I realized it.

I wish you good luck on your journey.

Semen has 5-7 calories per teaspoon and the average man only *********s 2-3 teaspoons at a time.  So unless your guzzling gallons of it all day long I wouldn't think that would cause any form of weight gain.

Liquid calories are any drinks that have calories - soda, juice, milk, alcohol, etc.

Definitely work on stopping the grazing and stop drinking during meals.  If you're getting thirsty - try to eat meals that have more moisture in them.  You might be eating things that are too dry.
