NSV for the week - Climbed Another Adirondack High Peak
Giant Mountain/Adirondack High peaks
Climbed Giant Mountain this weekend. Giant is the 12th highest peak in the Adirondacks. Approximately 6 miles round trip. The hike was beautiful. Saw hundreds of people and met many great folks along the way. I would not have done this pre op! I am so thankful for WLS and will continue to take full advantage!

I have never once in my life been hiking. What is the terrain like? Does it just continue up the mountain the way it looks at the in/out sign?

Hi Julie - this particular hike we starting climbing almost immediately. Was wooded for approximately 1.5 miles up and then the terrain opened up. We had to scramble up many rock formations, it can be nerve wracking to know you are climbing on open areas with the wind blowing. It is about 10 degrees cooler at the summit. This hobby has been very rewarding thus far. I like a challenge and have been pleased with what I have learned thus far. We are hoping to do a couple of overnight hikes next season. We are not prepared for it at this time. We need to get more equipment, luckily we can rent a bear canister ( to store food) and do not need to buy one. To put in perspective, if you look at the pictures I took of the giant washbowl from above - we were about 2.3 miles above the washbowl where I took the picture. You would love it.

Wow, that sounds amazing! We have some similarly rocky terrain out here in the desert, maybe I'll have to see if I can find somewhere to try a mile or two. Thanks for the inspiration!!
