Scales

In January, I purchased a Garmin Index Scale.  It measures my weight, BMI, fat percentage, water weight, muscle mass, and bone mass.  Everything transfers to my phone and computer when I use the scale.

I now have nine months of data and can look at charts to see what is happening.  If my weight is up, then I see if my water weight is up, my body fat is up or my muscle or bone weight has increased.  I also can view and print graphs of all these measurements.

I have been doing an exercise program since July and have gained eight pounds.  My scale tells me that one pound is fat, four pounds are muscle, one pound is bone mass and two pounds are water.  I so often see people wondering about the composition of their weight gain or loss.  It is pretty neat to actually know.

The scale cost $150 and I hesitated about buying it.  But I have found it to be one of the most valuable tools.  While I still want to lose those eight pounds, I do not feel as bad as I would have felt if they were all fat.  I am very pleased with the muscle tone that I have developed since July.

Instead of buying toys for Christmas this year I plan to give each family a Garmin Index scale.

If this had existed when I first bought my Wifi scale, I totally would have gotten it since I've got other things in the Garmin ecosystem.  But I've got a Withings body composition scale that's pretty awesome.  When it dies, though... this Garmin Index Scale will be MINE :D

I was looking at Withings and Fitbit Aria when Garmin announced the Index Scale.  I have only used Garmin fitness trackers so was happy to see a scale from them.  They are all great products and much better than using an old fashioned scale and guessing about body composition.

A few months ago I got the new Withing scale ...the cardio.  I was hesitant to spend that kind of money on it but I am glad I got it. (requested as a birthday gift...) ...

I love the repeatability, the responsiveness and that it works great on a floor or carpet.

The body analysis really allowed me to monitor not only my weight but also hydration..

I have the fitbit scale and while I can't say I totally believe it's fat% numbers I love having the graphs and charts that are automatically updated over wi-fi.  On the fat percentage I started out at 280 and appox 50% fat, I'm now 210 and still 45% fat.  My hubs is in the 20%s and also lost about 55lbs and his also didn't move much.  So I think the scale is just a bit wonky.

I am planning on doing some dexa scan and/or body pod testing and comparing to my scale.  I will post when I do that.
