How did you pick your Goal Weight?

Yup, small goals keep us motivated I think.

I have one coming up at 180, which puts me in the overweight category according to the link up top... Then the thinnest I was after having kids was 179... so 178 is another goal right on the heels of the overweight one!

Two big goals coming up in the next week or two! Exciting!

So I've been asking myself the same question.  I had my WLS in March and now that I'm at 215lbs at 5 9" I've been feeling so much better.  I have some more to loose but for the first time in a long time I'm not feeling way way too fat.  So I started asking the same questions.

First I went all science and looked at BMI charts, asked my surgeon's office what they based their average of 60-70% of excess body weight on, and really I still didn't come up with a solid number.

When I first set a goal before my WLS I picked 180, that was an even 100lbs of loss and I like round numbers.  I still might hit that number, I might not and stop at 190, or I might go on and get to 160.

But here is what I've been mulling over in my head... I don't think about a number anymore.  I want to be fit, and able to do the things I want to do.  Nothing too crazy but I love diving, being outside, roller coasters, and what not.  I would also like to not worry about my food issues either.  So far I've cut out my demon foods and not allowed them back in my life.  This has been working and I'll be happy when it's been a year or two and I'm still saying no.

Anyway long story short I think we're at about the same place, plenty lost and now saying wow I feel much better... now what number am I aiming for?  For me I'm stating to think it's not about that number but the ability to do the active things I want to.

I'm already under my surgeons goal.

I picked 135 because it was on the middle end of the 'normal' range. I would like to get under that but it is coming off so slow 9 months out now.

I started at 285, and my original goal was 160lb (I'm 5'5"). I'd never been that small in my life, and that seemed like a good number.

I hit that, and decided to change my goal to 150, which is BMI 25 for me. I maintained 148 - 150lb while pregnant, but seemed VERY hollow, I was in a size 0/2 and my doctor is sort of suspicious that I have adamantium bones or something.

My main goals were to get off my CPAP and blood pressure pills, and to ride 40mi in the big city bike race a year post-op. I did that, and that's what was most important to me-- not a number. My goals are similar as I work on my regain from having a baby, fighting with my bipolar, and getting lazy. I'm shooting for 160 as a "new final goal," and that's what works for me.

My goal is 175- like mute, it was a random OMG I can never get there anyway logic--I would like a 10-15# regain cushion.

My goal size was a 12-- reached that, and I now want to be comfortable in a 10. Whatever weight gets me there!

my goal was to fit in size 12 or below that; body fat % - normal for my age group or below (25-30)... . I reached that with my BMI in obese category..My body kept losing...

I ended up with BMI 24;  size 2-4... body fat % 18%... way too low for me and my age...

I revised my goal to 6-8 (10 top - "boobs") 150-155 (BMI 25-26) body fat % 20-25..

holding steady...

My weight, when I started this journey was 427. I wanted and still want to get done to 200. Just for some reason, that number has stuck in my mind.

When I do reach it (it's been almost 9 years since wls.), I'll decide then if I want to go any lower. I have relapsed, and gained some of my weight back. But, am working my tool, and losing it. Plus, it helps that my husband will be having WLS October 14th. He's in the pre-op liver shrinking diet phase. And I'm doing that with him
It's a great day to be alive.
