How did you pick your Goal Weight?

How tall are you? Many people use a BMI of 25 as their goal. That was my first goal (159 for me). My final goal was always 140, since I had that as my lifetime Weigh****chers goal weight in my 20's. At 50, my joints feel better at this weight than they did when I weighed 159.

Your goal weight does not have to be set in stone. I love the quote that says "our goal weight should be something we can easily maintain while living the life we want to live."

I'm 5'5"... so that puts me at 150-151 for a BMI of 25.

I'm good with the whole 'fluid' thing. I don't do well on schedules of any kind!

At my 3 mo. check-up the doc gave me a graph of what my goal would be if I lost 100% of my excess weight (ideal) and 80% of excess weight (what he considers realistic).  They were pretty much in target with what I had in mind.  I'm 5'2" and 57 years old.  My "I think I can live with that" goal is 160, my "I feel pretty good about that" goal is 140 and my "Wow this is great" goal is 125-130.  I'll see when I get there.  I have a lot of size 6 clothes from when I lost weight the last time that I would really like to be able to wear.

I never really picked a goal weight.  I just wanted to fit into a pair of size 12's again.  I didn't care what the weight was...I just knew what it looked like (if memory served).  I remembered myself looking pretty good at that size but couldn't quite remember how much I weighted at that size.  So I bought a pair of size 12's and when they fit again I considered myself at goal.  Very scientific...LOL

But of course me being me.  I have always wanted to lose another 20 lbs.  I am never happy.

Thin air. My surgeon did not give a goal except to get rid of my comorbidities. Once I got to goal, I also had my body fat tested, since that is also a good indication of health.

Health is definitely the most important thing, isn't it? I agree completely.

I started all of this with no comorbidities, then found out I had sleep apnea. I now no longer need the CPAP, however, I'm definitely not happy with where I am right now. Of course, I still fall under the Obese category, and still have the Overweight category to work through... those are good goals for now!

I'm almost at my 1 year mark and withing 3 pounds of my lowest weight as an adult.  My goal weight at 5'4.5" is 148 right now i'm 169 so a bit over 20 to go.  I started at 290 last aug and never really could imagine being close to goal.  I've focused on mini goals but now my next mini goal is got get into the 150's by thanksgiving which is actually doable for me.  My next appointment I'll be doing a bodpod follow up which I've done ever 3 months since surgery to monitor fat loss vs muscle loss.  As long as I'm maintaining muscle mass and hopefully gaining a bit I'm going to just go with the weight loss until I slow down.  I don't want to stop until my body is at a healthy weight even if its lower then 148.  Moving into my second year I'm focused on more exercise and long term eating patterns and then obviously I'd like to reach a maintenance weight.  Good luck!!

I'm in the boat with those who have a lot of milestones I want to get through.

  1. A totally made up goal to Get my weight down to where it was when I met my husband 10 years ago. 42lbs to go on that one.
  2. the dietician suggested a conservative goal of 230 for me (which coincidentally is my lowest adult weight) maybe I'll be happy there? Prob not.
  3. Under 200. That is because I was a teen or tween when that was even possible.
  4. Then I'll just keep poking away until it stops.
