Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy
Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy
Yeah, it's as bad as it sounds. I've struggled with constipation ever since the Atkins diet 20 years ago. I've always tried to drink a ton, eat lots of fiber, prune juice (did nothing for me so I gave that up looooong ago), etc. Still I ended up with a fissure. Oh my. You don't know pain until you've experienced one of these babies. It felt like giving birth to shards of glass every time I went to the bathroom. Excruciating.
The GI doc prescribed miracle creams (nitro/lido compound cream), that did absolutely nothing and by the end of 2 weeks, I just stopped eating because I didn't want to go to the bathroom. I finally had surgery on Sept. 1st. The recovery was tough...but I am feeling somewhat human these days. I want to reiterate "Don't get constipated!!" but I wasn't even suffering from constipation before this happened.
I've missed y'all.

So sorry for all you've been through but glad the surgery is over! Isn't it amazing how a bowel problem can just take over your life? Best wishes for a full recovery!
