I'm approved, what's in "pre-op" testing?
So I've been somewhat of a lurker. I've checked in everyday but haven't said "Hi." This is my first post; thanks for all the info you regulars post.
I got the call from my surgeon yesterday that BCBS approved. I'm now set up for pre-op testing. Considering I'm 32, no co-morbidities but a horrible BMI...any idea what pre-op testing is going to be? Thanks in advance!

Pre-op, for me, included the following:
Endoscopy
Psych eval
Phone interview with a nurse
EKG and bloodwork (with PCP)
And that was it. All pretty easy!

If you are already approved, yes sounds like pre-op testing they are talking about is the standard for any surgery. Bloodwork, EKG, chest x-ray...basic things like that, and it usually has to be within a few weeks of surgery.

In addition to what others mentioned, some surgeons require a test for sleep apnea, and some require nicotine tests to make sure you don't smoke.

Hello and welcome here. For me, pre-op testing included, two days before my surgery - blood work (complete metabolic panel, complete blood count) and an EKG. I didn't have to do endoscopy as some do. Of course, billing hunted me down to collect what they had estimated my insurance would not pay on that day as well. Congratulations and best of success wished your way.
In my case it was:
tons of bloodwork
pulmunory approval
heart stress test (nuclear)
psychological evaluation/interview
nutrition counseling
sleep study
I had no endoscopy or colonoscopy.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
