I honestly, personally, dont buy into the sleep apnea deal much.

I have yet to hear of anyone that has ever gone for a test and been told "nope, you're good to go, no issues!"

They always find out they basically dont breath at night and end up afraid of what theyve been told. Then buy the expensive machine from the study center.

I did a study... found out I (to summarize) only breath 10% of the night (thats an exageration) but refused to buy my equipment from them. They werent very nice to me after that. Instead I bought everything online and tried using for a while but ended up stopping. Had cats whose dander saturated the air filter, and in that time frame when I got the kittens I didnt realize i had developed severe cat allergies since I had cats last

For my surgery I told the surgeon group I was diagnosed sleep apnea and didnt use a machine for the last 10 years.

Either way, you'll get thru this little hurdle and move on towards your goal :) Dont sweat it

I did not have sleep apnea on my test. I had reflux and restless leg syndrome but no sleep apnea.

I went through a sleep study at 270 pounds and was cleared.  No sleep apnea, I was "good to go"!  Your comment is bull**** Chris (Again.... with the generalizations.  Will you ever learn?).

No, my head is shoved far up my ass, remember?

Awesome to hear people dont get diagnosed, that was honest to god my opinion that no one makes it out without being diagnosed. Glad opinions are generalizations still ;)

Take care!

Don't you know that yet? If Chris did not hear about something - it does not exist...because it is does - someone would have told him... Right?

Fat people = apnea.  My doc's office won't schedule for WLS until you've done your study and resolved the results.  So if you go to the study, they'll be able to find something because most people do sleep like crap when they are overweight.  That's not even science that's just talking to fat people.  Now being lighter I do sleep better, hell I don't even have to take ambien anymore.

I went for my study and the sleep joint did make a big deal of my found arena, however my doc's office said my case was so mild that they'd waive my "need" for the machine in order to have my WLS.  Anyway if your requested to do the study, they suck, no one likes taking a night out of their life and sleeping strapped up like Darth Vader and monitored in some weird bed while trying to sleep, but they are needed.

same here.  I was told I had a mild case (I had six apnea per hour - less than five is considered "no apnea").  The sleep center said they recommended a CPAP, but my bariatric surgeon's PA said he probably wouldn't do it as it would likely resolve pretty quickly after I started losing weight.

I was 400 lbs when I had my sleep study done and I was told that I did NOT have sleep apnea. I have never used a CPAP and hopefully never will. On the other hand, my ex was 50 lbs overweight and was diagnosed with it. It is rare that someone like me would not be diagnosed with it, but it happens.

My son had a sleep apnea study and did not have it.  So there's one example!

Low oxygen level slowly kills you... Kills your brain cells.  Glad you have good docs to diagnose you. I hope you get proper fitting equipment so you can get more oxygen.

Good luck.

Btw: buying used equipment on internet is not a good idea. Equiment like that was afpdjudted for someone else.  Also as you start losing weight- you may need to go to have it fitted again. As your face will change - the man and pressure needs to be adjusted.

And these days, doctors read the data chips on the machines to see if you are being compliant. If you aren't using the proper machine, yhey will refuse WLS because they can't see if you are using it.

I know a lot of pepple that refuse to use their CPAP because it's a nuisance and they blame it on hype. But I also know people that keep smoking 2 packs a day because they think they will never get lung cancer.
