More exercise

I'm a bit over 4 months post op from VSG.  I've been walking several days a week, and adding 20 minutes on the elliptical as time allows.

I used to do an hour on the elipitcal, but I'm pretty tiered now after 20 minutes.  I've been thinking about what execise to add...thinking about joining a gym.

What do you do for exercise?  If you go to a gym what do you do there?

Thanks,

Tara

I went to LA fitness before I had my son. I used the treadmills and spin bikes quite a bit, and I'd swim slow laps and do water-walking once or twice a week. I tried Zumba and was a miserable failure (I have three left feet)!

I stick mostly to cycling now, I can do a long ride on the weekend while my husband has his daddy-baby time. I try to take a walk during my lunch break at the office when I can as well.

I am almost six months out and I do Zumba twice a week (that's all it's offered). I suck at it but I love it. And we walk 4.2 miles everyday.

I mostly use weights at the gym. I use the machines rather than the free weights. I sometimes use the bike & treadmill. They have yoga classes & some other classes at the gym which is nice, but I haven't gone to the classes in the longest time due to my work schedule.

Early on post op I did almost all cardio... running, elliptical, etc. But I got bored quickly and I didn't feel like I was really getting much "fitter" from it. Also I have bad ankles so it was doing a number on them. I started lifting weights more and concentrated on total body strength around 6 months post op. About 4 months ago I started kickboxing classes after finding a Groupon for a MMA gym, and I love it so much I literally count down the hours each day until I can go to the gym. I've never loved exercise until now. I'm 13 months post op and I now go to kickboxing 3-4 times a week, lift weights 4 times a week, and run just once a week.

Just keep trying things. Look for groupons for different kinds of fitness classes. Dance fitness is another great total body workout that combines strength and cardio.

Find something you read enjoy so you want to go. That's the key!
