I'm not a big drinker, but I do like to drink.  Please tell me we can drink something.  My typical I'm a Tequila girl with a Beer Michelob Ultra low carb.

Here is a good article that will answer that question and many more.

Good luck

From my understanding it should be rare, very little and only after goal. Having said that transfer addiction is real and alcoholism is a bad one to trade for. Best of luck!

I'm going to read that article, but I'm not worried about addiction I don't drink that much just want to know that I can drink it if I want it on the weekends.  It doesn't have a lot of carbs and I don't mix with anything sweet.  Thank you

I've seen far, far too many people ruin their lives, and the lives of loved ones, by drinking after WLS. Not a single one of them started out being worried about addiction, but they all ended up addicts, just the same.

The number of carbs is irrelevant. The number of calories matters, some. It's the alcohol, and what it can do, that should worry you. A lot.

Thank you.  I'm looking for the truth and when you are on this side before surgery it seems hard to believe that we could become addicted when we never drink that much.  Tequila I think only has 30 calories something like that, but what I'm finding with what everyone is saying it could become something worse over calories.

Tequila has 96 calories in 1.5 ozs.

A friend of mine recently called me upset because she has gained 15lbs and can't figure out why.  She is over two years out from a revision surgery (band to bypass)  She said she hardly eats anything.    I asked her what she is drinking she said what she always has.  She has always been a social drinker.  Her drinks are white Russians, and tequila.  They are consumed every day, but she insists the weight gain has nothing to do with her drinking since she has always had them.

Alcohol affects people differently after WLS and should be consumed with caution or not at all.

Forget carbs, look at calories-- a Michelob Ultra is 90 calories. As you work towards goal, you'll probably be in the neighborhood of 600 calories per day, so 90 empty calories is nothing to sneeze at.
