I absolutely agree with Hala's response.

It isn't rude nor mean to simply advise him that he's crossing the line and it is making you uncomfortable.

Another thought from my prospective.  Is this guy overweight?  If so, maybe he is asking you questions for his own need in wanting to lose weight.  You could turn his question around so it's about him.  Next time he asks you, ask him why he wants to know.

This guy seems genuinely concerned. You mentioned that you looked in the mirror and you look great. I can tell you from experience that most of us see the same thing, 2 years from now when you look back at pictures of yourself you will see what he sees. Your body is in distress and being starved, it shows as pale or gaunt skin that you will not be able to see until later. You look sick right now, but you are blind to it. Many people will come right out and ask if you have cancer or something. You will be put in many uncomfortable situations and you need to deal with them all the same way or you will come off as a fraud at some time in the future

We all handle this differently, what I have noticed is that if you keep it to yourself and keep others in the dark, you will be the main topic of gossip for the next 2 years. If you tell him and then talk about it openly with the people that are concerned enough (or nosey enough) to ask, you will be the topic of gossip for a very short time and you will find a lot of support from the people around you.

WLS is not a taboo. Most everyone deals with a weight issue at some time in their life, and most people are genuinely interested in understanding WLS.

Good luck on your path to wellness,

Robert

I really disagree with you about looking sick. For one I'm always pale lol. I'm the whitest person ever so that's not an issue and I look healthier than I ever have in my life. Also, I've seen people who have lost too much weight from the surgery, but again - at 170 that is so not me.

I've actually had cancer before so I know what I look like with cancer and this isn't it.

Thanks for the input though.

I realize that you disagree about looking sic, I did too. I am sure you will understand at 2 years post opp, I guarantee. But for now you need to understand that the questions will not stop for several years because the people around you see a drastic change in your appearance and your looks change weekly. Feel good about yourself and do not for one minute feel ashamed for what you did. You have made a very brave decision to take control of your health!!! You are beautiful and smart, be proud of yourself and confident that you did the right thing for yourself.

I'm at 18 months post op now so I really doubt that in 6 months that will change.

I'm a little on the fence about the looking sick comment., not that you look sick, you look great! Some people however will jump to conclusions because it's dramatic to them, especially if they've never seen the thinner you b4. For them losing a lot of weight in a short period of time=sickness, no matter how good you look. There are some serious sick people out there but you wouldn't know it because maybe they're not in that stage yet.

I understand that his comments make you uncomfortable, but he's probably clueless, that or he just doesn't have proper manners. Some guys really don't know talking about a womans weight is a touchy subject.

Absolutely disagree about looking sick. I have pictures from both before and after WLS, and I looked much sicker before, because I was.
