Patch MD Calcium and Iron Interference

I looked on the forum to find the answer to my question, but did not see any. For those of you who wear the patches, do you wear iron and calcium at the same time? Don't the two interfere with and cancel out each other? I know I'm going to order the Multi, which also has iron and calcium in it, but what else should I order? I cannot stomach another pill or calcium chew.

Yup, calcium and iron should be done separately. You can put one on in the morning and a different one at night. (EDIT: Nope, totally false. Thanks Grim!)

I've heard good things about the B-12 patches, but you may want to hold off on that one until you see your most recent lab work. That will give you a hint as to if you need to add additional.

Iron and calcium, or other combinations, cancel each other out when taken orally. This is because of how, and where, they are absorbed in the digestive tract.

Patch vitamins are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, so they avoid the problems with oral vitamins. You will absorb both the iron and calcium in a patch just fine. But orally, you would not.

Also, the calcium in the patch is calcium carbonate, not citrate. Calcium citrate is absorbed much better orally than calcium carbonate is. We should never take calcium carbonate orally. But we absorb calcium carbonate transdermally, in the patch, just fine. My calcium has been much better since I switched to the patch.

Thank you for the info!  I'm off to buy the patches.

What Grim said - the iron and calcium compete for absorption during digestion, but since you're bypassing digestion, it's not a problem.

Exactly what Grim said!  Patches are absorbed directly into the blood stream, so the interference of the two (Calcium and Iron) are not an issue, like it would be with a oral vitamin.

I have been using PatchMD for quite a while and am so happy with them. I wish they had them 15 years ago!!!!

I don't care for the carbs in my favorite  Calcium chew, so now that we an use Patch MD and wear  Iron and Calcium at the same time, I will switch to the patch. Good luck!
